I am trying to build 2 boxes with 2 speakers in each one, I would like to keep the ohms at about 8. Series would make it 16 parellel would make it 4, is there a way to do it so that the ohms would remain 8. These are for the rear channel so i guess with it being 16ohms wouldnt hurt as they would be closer to us anyway and any sound reduction would not be that bad.

For surrounds I think 4 ohms would be fine on all but the poorest recievers, they dont operate at a constant loud level and if you rool them off to the sub you are giving even less reason to worry.

The problem will running an amp at that is rated a 8 to 6 ohms, it is bad for the amp. The amp will run hot all the time. What speakers do you plan to use? Why not get 2 that are 4 ohm and run them in series to get 8 ohms.

Surround speakers

If you want a 7.1 system then you will need the surround and surround back channels in different locations. If you are trying to build a dipole or bipole speaker, research some of the kits that are available. There is a lot that goes into designing a good speaker including the enclosure size, shape, and material, driver selection and crossover design.
