The Nad is Canadian. Go with it. The YPAO is a nice to have feature, but not necssary. The Radioshack Meter (if you can find a Radioshack meter up here right now) and a copy of either Sound and vision's home theatre tune up or Avia's disc (available at Chapters) will allow you to perform at least as good a job. Nads are just plain beasts and IMO the 753 is at least as good a product as the yammie 1500. I know alot of people say amps don't change the way a speaker sounds, but so far everything I've heard sounds great on a Nad. I still remember looking for a sub when I heard a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 2's on a Nad integrated amp and CD player. I thought for sure that the speakers would cost a thousand or more, but they didn't, they were half that price. I've seen the same speakers since hooked up to different gear and while they still impressed me it wasn't to the same degree. Nad is one of the few products that we don't take a huge bath on in pricing in Canada. They are expensive everywhere. But you do get what you pay for.

The NAD T743 or T753 are under $1K. If a receiver is desired. :D
T743 - 5x50w. Didn't consider.
T753 - $999.00

Like I said. 1k.

$999.00 is a dollar less than $1K is it not. :D More or less that is correct though. It is tough to find a solid amplifer/receiver that will play solidly below 6 ohms for less than a Grand.

Help wanted!

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum! I don't know too much about HT stuff. Can anyone tell me where I can learn about these things you wrote? Like +3db=2xpower, and how you calculate that a 92db speaker needs 516W-s for 119db, what is spl level, and things like that!
Thx!

You can start by learning the basics HERE and HERE As well as going through some of the basic things on this website HERE. For more specific questions, one could start their own thread, or PM me. Only after they do some research to understand basics so that they do not become lost during an explanation. :) :p

Neither. Those are mid line receivers and won't drive 4 ohm speakers any better than your Yamaha. You would need to step up to the Onkyo 900 series or Marantz 9000 series to even attemp to drive 4ohm speakers. The hi fi shop was correct.
ah dont you miss the days of 4 ohm amps or even 2 ohm or the krell 1 ohm, lol.not to say today,s amp,s wont do that but, it a different school.remenber the 16 ohm amp,s low powered but hey 16-8-4-2-1 doubles evey time.mind you that,s almost driving a short.that,s why the part,s are huge to take the heat.also very costly.also class a dont help with the heat.

with these speakers. I was told at a hi fi shop to sell the speakers and buy some 8 ohm ones
Did this dealer try & explain to you why he thought you should sell your 4 ohm speakers in favor of 8 ohm speakers,i suspect that if he reccomended such a drastic step that your speakers have a huge impendance dip way below 4 ohms & are not the easiest to drive.

You should name the speaker & model # to get the best recomendation.
