Thanks for the tight reply. Reading my post again I see how mixed up it was. My old receiver says "Dolby digital" or "Pro logic II" and has red and white inputs.

Ok, so on 5.1 without a center speaker I am losing content. Got it. Thats what I dont want.
No, the content is simply sent to other channels. In the case of center channel content, the dialog is sent equally to the two main speakers. You don't lose any content. You lose the ability to anchor the dialog to the screen and the ability to adjust dialog level up or down relative to the main speaker content.
