I'm going to give Axiom a shot. 2 of the speakers I'm trying out are the VP150 Centre and the QS8 surround. Both of them are 6 Ohms, 400 watts, 85-22k, 95dB for the VP150 and 400 watts, 95-22k, 95dB for the QS8. My question is, how good is the Denon AVR-3805 at driving 6 Ohm speakers? Particularly these speakers.

Should be OK. My receiver states 6 Ohm minimum, but I am running a 4 Ohm center and surrounds and it works well, though those are also the only 3 speakers the receiver is driving. If you were running all 6 Ohm speakers, I might question it, but just those 3 should not be a problem. The surrounds are not working all the time, so they don't draw a ton of current all the time. The center will be working basically all of the time, but it should be OK.

If you find that it sounds strained or you notice the receiver getting too hot, you might consider some external amplification for some of your speakers.

I haven't heard their towers, but I like the bookshelf Axioms I've heard; pretty good value vs performance. FYI, the numbers you are quoting are not the full range of the speaker, the VP150 goes to 50Hz, and the QS8 goes to 65Hz.

Axiom recommends the denon for running their 4 ohm speakers ( M80's). So 6 should not be a problem at all. Many people on the axiom site have the 3805 with the 150/qs8's.

What fronts are you using?

You'll be very happy with the axiom's. I got the 80's a few months back and fell in love. Just got the vp-150/qs8's today as well. Awesome surround speakers and center.

I'm running a nad t773 because the 80's are 4 ohm. Has No issues at all with all these speakers. But, I tell you I almost got the 3805, and I'm almost wishing I did as it has a built in eq.

You shouldn't have any problem pushing 6 ohm speakers with the 3805 per se, but 400 watts is a pretty healthy bit 'o power...what is the low end recommendation on the Axioms?

Bryan...my center channel is a 6 ohm speaker, and the 3805 doesn't even seem to notice...

I noticed those two freq resp for these speakers. I'm not sure what the difference between them are though. I was a little concerned about the centre being pitchy.

I'm going with the M60ti's. I'm also, more than likely going to get the EP500 :D . It seems quite impressive. I know the 80's put out a lot of bass, but do you have an Axiom sub yet?

I would say that if it got crowned "King of the Deep" by the writers here at AH, then it would be quite a performer.

The low end is 10 watts, seems quite efficient.

Here's my equipment

Nad T773
2 M80ti's
2 QS8
1 VP-150
1 HSU VTF3-MKII

So, no, I never went with Axiom for the sub. If I remember correctly, at the time I was trying to decide, the EP350 was around 750 CDN? and EP500 was 1400. I got my HSU for 950 shipped/taxes, and it's more comparable to the 500 then 350.

I really wanted the 500, if anything so everything matched, but I heard so many good things about the HSU that the price difference between the HSU/EP500 just wasn't worth it. Now, if the axiom was 1000-1100, I would have gotten it, but I don't see the difference worth the extra cash. I love my HSU, and it shakes the @#$@#$ out of my house and hits very low/hard. And there's a turbo upgrade coming out for it for it as well that'll make it hit even lower....although I don't know if I need it any better. The thing is nuts already.

REmember, you can always send back the 60's if you think you'll regret not getting the 80's right away. But be warned, getting a good amp for the 80's isn't as easy as a 8 ohm amp. The Denon will do fine though.
