Toys R Us and Amazon are selling the Xbox 360 HD-DVD players for $129. I really wasn't looking into getting one but I can't beat that price. I know there were some players on sale recently for $99, but they only displayed up to 1080i. I didnt see any point in getting one. The 360 player has full 1080p resolution so I am thinking about picking one up.

Anyone have any experience with these players? Are they worth a toot?

I posted this in the DVD section. From everything I read, if you have the Elite (and I guess the new Premium has the HDMI port too? Don't know) Then this is definately a steal, especially considering the 5 free HD-DVDs. However, the audio playback on this is not up to HD-DVD standards as it won't decode them. So if your main concern is the picture, then get it.

If I had a receiver that could decode the audio formats would that work? Are the new audio formats available only through HDMI or can I get them through optical cables. Sound is important to me and eventually I will get a receiver that can decode these formats. If I can only get Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD with a player and a receiver capable if these, then I wont bother with it. No need to have a great picture without the sound to go with it.

Exactly, and no with a TrueHD decoding receiver you still won't get the sound.

Amazon is running a special where the 3 Toshiba HD-xx players give you 10 free movies, 3 from amazon, 2 in the box, and 5 mail in. If you really want one, get one of those.

I just suggest a Blue Ray player, mainly PS3
