3.0 Setup Question (multi-channel settings)

I'll be moving in two weeks, and sadly, my two in-ceiling rears won't be coming with me. The size of my new room will be smaller, so I'm thinking a 3.0 setup will produce plenty of sound (without angering the neighbors ). My one concern is multi-channel content. Without the rears in place, will my receiver (Sherwood R-972) downfold the surround channels to the front L/R? Would it be best to output in stereo and let Pro-logic II manage the center? I don't think movies will be too bad if I output 5.1, but I do have a few games that utilize the rears for the selection/confirmation (pressing A) noise.

Anyone have any experience with this?

It won't do it automatically, you just need to tell it you don't have those speakers and it will provide you with audio that isn't missing anything.

Like the above poster said... In your setup for your A/V receiver you want to let the receiver know that you do not have any surrounds and you do not have a subwoofer. Then the receiver will automatically handle folding the surrounds into the front speakers.

Thanks for the replies. So folding down surrounds to the front doesn't create any odd effects and can be done without selecting a surround processing mode (ie. Neo or Pro Logic)?
