I presently use one PB10-NSD in a dedicated HT, and am considering adding a second sub to improve bass response at all seating positions. Leaning towards staying with SVS to ease integration (similar design, materials, sound, etc.)--not sure if this is as critical with subs as it is with front sound stage speakers (i.e. like model/brand/woofer size) .

Question: Which one of the following three subs would best integrate with the PB10-NSD I already own?
a) Another PB10-NSD (~$500 delivered),
b) Add a PB12-NSD (~$600 delivered), or
c) Add a SB12-Plus (~$700 delivered).

Other Facts:
1) Room is 13’ deep x 18’ wide with a 8’ tray ceiling (7’ within ~18” of each side wall) for approximately 1800 cu. ft.
2) Room has no windows, three interior doors (kept closed during use) and one door sized opening at the left rear corner to a “bonus” room (~15’ x 25’). This opening only has a velvet curtain, no door.
3) Use is 60% HT and 40% music, but I place more importance on music performance.
4) Subs beyond SB12 (~$700) are out of my price range. A lower cost increases WAF!

Thanks in advance,

Another PB-10 would be the best match, but you could probably get away with a PB-12 if you wanted to. But I would contact SVS to see what they reccomend.

Since you have an opening near the red curtains, a PB10 to the left to the couch should work. You'd have to move the dvd rack a bit to make room.

This way, not only will you have a more even-room response, but have the sub next to your couch will act like a buttkicker, giving you tactile feedback.

SVS Tech Rep's reply

Gents,

In addition to asking the experts in Audioholic's forums, I also emailed SVS Tech Support and got a reply in less than a day :D

I was pleased he recommended the least costly solution (PB10), for SQ vice price reasons. :)
Too bad SVS doen's have a "Convince the Wife" department as responsive as their tech department is :p:D:p.

His reply is below.

Hi Maurice,

Glad you've been enjoying that PB10-NSD. Nice room, too…love the curtain to the bonus room.

In that space I’d go with another PB10-NSD. No real reason to jump to the PB12-NSD if you're mainly looking to even things out, and adding a PB10 will increase your dynamic headroom by 6dB right there. The SB12-Plus is actually quite a bit less capable than the PB10 down deep as our smallest sub by far, so stick with the PB10.

I'd like to see you put it on the other side of the TV, either where those components are on the floor or between the speaker and the TV as on the right side. Either way you'd have to move those amps(?). Can they go on the right side in that corner?

Jack's suggestion was my second choice. Try my setup as well with the 2nd PB10. It will give you more oomph.

Updated PB10 on SVS website

Bluesmoke,

Thanks for the advice. Enjoyed your PB10 review as well. Looks like SVS has updated the PB10 since I bought my first one:

"New: High-flow 3.5" port, re-tuned full-featured BASH amp and sleek aluminum woofer cone!" and it is available with a pre-order price discount--cool!

They must have just recently updated it. I had a PB-10 for a few months, I liked it a lot.

I just checked it out and I really like the look of the new woofer. I'm mad that they didn't have the new amp in it when I bought mine earlier this year, otherwise I'd still have it today. Oh well, the money I got from selling it went to help pay for my PB13 Ultra, so it wasn't a total loss :D

A PB13 Ultra, that is quite a step up!

155 lbs of kick a$$, did it arrive with a couple movers and a dolly? :D

Well actually the PB-10 replaced a Dayton Sub-120, the PB13 replaced a 20-39 PC+, then I wanted to keep the PB-10 for a small 2.1 system I have, but it's amp doesn't have speaker level inputs, and my receiver for that system doesn't have an lfe out jack, so I sold the PB10 and moved the 20-39 PC+ to the bedroom. It's a bit overkill for the size room it's in, but in the 16 hz. tune mode it rocks hard, I love it! But it arrived by ground freight with just one person, which kinda surprised me.
