Yes, we have them all the time around here, but when they are big enough that you REALLY notice them, it does tend to get a bit unnerving. Last night a 5.6 hit just a few miles from my house and I definitely felt that one! One just hit a few minutes ago here and I work on the 5th floor only a few miles from the epicenter (same fault as previous). When it shakes enough to make you notice take notice, like things in the building shaking, well...nobody likes those ones...:( Before October 1989 (Loma Prieta), I think most of us took ones of this magnitude in stride, but now I think most who were here during that one get a little worried when they make an appearance like this.

Just grab your beer so it doesn't fall over and hide under the coffee table :)

Do worry, eventually you'll be giving Matt34 some beach front property at his house.

The St. Andreas fault is going to be the big one. Never know when that one is going to hit.

There is always Missouri...no quakes there for decades. ;)

J/K, John. Hang on tight and don't spill that beer Majorloser talked about. Oh, and you can send me that lovely sub to keep safe. :D

After growing up and spending most of my life in southern California, I delighted in moving away from the quakes...TO OREGON...only to have a quake awaken us on the very first Sunday morning in our new home here. Grrrr. And THEN I found out about the Cascadia Subduction Zone...150 miles due west of our location. There is a regular 300-500 year pattern of NINE POINT + earthquakes and tsunamis from there. Uh-huh...the last was in the early 1700's.

Our company has a big office in St. Louis :) I was funny, because the cats were running around all crazy when the larger one hit, two ended up under the couch I was sitting on. Then last night we watched Monster house, and the sub does shake the house pretty well and two of the cats were looking around again...

J, you just gotta start turning that subwoofer DOWN.
Hahaha. I created stress on the fault...LOL.

No beer spilled :)

Yeah, the one Tuesday was cool. It freaked out my bird. I didn't even feel the one yesterday.

We probably wouldn't have noticed that 3.7 either if we weren't at work on the upper floors of our building. We were all ready to head for the stairs...

I live in a very seismic active region myself but the quakes rarely get big enough to feel. To people in Claifornia, this must sound stupid but the meters are always scratching across the papers here. I hope things settle down for you again quickly with no harm to friend or family.

I remember about 30 seconds before the earthqauke hit us...mid to high 4s, the hamster we had at that time just freaked out, jumping at the cage, squeeking louldy and knawing at teh bars. Then I noticed the stair railing moving independently of the wall and it really freaked me out.

Good luck J
