2910/3805 SACDeficient?

I've been enjoying the 2910/3805 combo for about 9 months, listening to vinyl and cd's - then last week I finally bought a handful of SACD's and DVD-A's. When I select Ext.In on the front panel to pass the multichannel signal through the (6) analog cables, I only get the front L & R channels, no surround. If I select DVD-Auto, I get surround but processed by the receiver.

I assume I've got a problem with setup somewhere?

Example sources I'm listening to:
LAGQ Latin (Hybrid Multichannel SACD)
Jorma Kaukonen Blue Country Heart (Stereo Multichannel SACD)
Bela Fleck Bluegrass Sessions V.2 (DVD-A)
Blue Man Group Audio (Surround Mix DVD-A)

On the 2910 make sure you have selected SACD playback as Multi (can be done on the front panel or via remote) - the selection rotates through Multi/Stereo/CD.

I found the problem, I'll post it here because it seems so obscure - the Denon 2910 manual gives few clues of it.

In Setup/Audio Setup, most settings were grayed out, not available, including Audio Channel and Source Direct. And Source Direct was set to ON, not the factory default.

I also found that Setup/Digital Interface/HDMI Audio Setup was set to MULTI(NORMAL), not the default. I changed it back to 2CH, which made the Audio Setup setting available. I went through the Audio Channel settings, and changed the Source Direct to OFF. Now I get Multi Channel through Ext.In. Life is good again.

Thanks for putting this one down in writing. I've been in varied states of tinkering with my 2910/3805 combo for the past few months and never took the time to record what actually worked. I end up repeating the science experiment all over again.
