Will the 2500 allow the setup of a non powered subwoofer? any power or bass out issues? I think this particular sub would be connected via speaker cable. Also, will the 2500 recognize this as the .1 ? Not a lot of information in the manual on this topic.

As long as you supply a power amp, no problems.

the LFE output is a line level signal. It won't power a speaker without a power amp between them, which a powered sub supplies.

The power that is required to run a subwoofer properly is (typically) much more than any A/V receiver will put out or designed for. So, you will want to get a decent amplifier designed for subwoofers. You will then use the LFE output on the Yamaha, run it into the outboard sub amp, then the amp will power the sub.

Since, you may find this to be a pain the rear to setup, you now know why so many subs come with built in amplifiers that are perfectly matched to their particular sub.

Yes it will allow the setup. You won't have any control over the sub hooked up with speaker cables. You will have very little power to the sub. It will not recognize the sub as a .1. You either need to buy a separate mono amp with a preamp or ditch it and get a modern subwoofer with an integrated amp mounted on the rear.

Hey Buckeye- How about a NHT Monaural Amplifier? Will that give my 2500 the ability to control the sub (80 watts into 8 ohms).

I got a bose acoustimass that goes w/ my 901's fronts and my 601's rear and I only paid $50 for the sub. Trying to keep the speakers all in the family. Now I am going to borrow my Fathers amp to see how (or if) it works. I don't want to throw good money after bad. If this works, then I will try and settle on an amp. If it doesn't, then I will look into another sub altogether (powered of course).

Thanks for your help.
