Ain't no such thing as a musical sub. There's low distortion, accurate, well designed and built subs and then there's everything else. If you really want "tight" and "musical" make sure the sub is a good one, make sure you do a sub crawl, and thenif you really want the best bass you can get out of that sub in your room, treat the room then add a couple more. EQ'ing always helps as well, but that's pretty involved.
Different alignments, drivers, and the room will all contribute to differences in how they sound, but overall the above is more true than it isn't.
Plus you could go with some of the variable tune models out there.
