2000 cuft or 2700 cuft

My living room is 25x13.5x8 LxWxH approx 2700 cuft
but my home theater occupies 18x13.5x8 approx 2000 cuft with my sitting distance from the from wall being closer to 16 feet.
Granted both measurements still fall into the medium room cat according to the audioholics guides... one is on the very large side of medium. So when I'm shopping for a sub, should I shop for a 2000 cuft rated medium room sub, or a 2700 cuft rated large room sub?
This kinda goes with the thread I started earlier about aesthetics, because SVS has their older model SB12 NSD subs available with a piano gloss finish for 600 dollars.. its seems like it would fit what I am looking for perfectly..

Your sub has to be able to fill the entire air space it will "see". Which is to say, all the space in the room it is in, plus any rooms that are open to it. So yes, you must use the entire 2700cuft and also account for a little bit of air leakage into any adjoining rooms since I very much doubt your living room is airtight. If the kitchen is open to the living room without any barriers or without any barriers that can be shut you must also add that cubic footage to your magic number as well as any other rooms or hallways that do the same.

If this is for HT I would not pick the svs sb12, I own a pair of them and they won't make you happy for movies, for music I love them, but for rattle and shake, not the best choice, and I have 2!!!

Look into ULS15 if you want small-ish and powerful, but your best bet is to go ported for HT, especially if you are going with a single sub..

Actually I really am looking for a musical sub... HT is a secondary focus. I watch maybe 2 to 3 movies a month, and often times when I do it is at night when the kids have gone to bed and my wife wont let me go too loud. Loudish, but not loud.
I'll put it this way... my current Infinity PS-210 fills has no problem filling the room to the level I am looking for... I'm just want tight, accurate, musical bass with low notes that I can hear as well as the mids and highs from my EMP book shelves... I dont want the muddy, inarticulate anymore.

Ain't no such thing as a musical sub. There's low distortion, accurate, well designed and built subs and then there's everything else. If you really want "tight" and "musical" make sure the sub is a good one, make sure you do a sub crawl, and thenif you really want the best bass you can get out of that sub in your room, treat the room then add a couple more. EQ'ing always helps as well, but that's pretty involved.

Different alignments, drivers, and the room will all contribute to differences in how they sound, but overall the above is more true than it isn't.

Plus you could go with some of the variable tune models out there.

Sadly, room treatment and the sub crawl wont work because in my situation Aesthetics > Acoustics. A Hsu VTF 3 in rosewood would be ideal for me, but sadly budget is a concern too.
So after starting a thread about aesthetics a week or so ago I narrowed my selection down to 4. The SVS sb12 with the piano gloss, the SB2000, the PC12, or the Outlaw LFM1 EX. Out of those 4 I am starting to look more closely at the SB12 and the Outlaw. I like the piano gloss on the SVS and because of its small foot print, the placement is more flexible. The Outlaw will have no problem filling the room I'm sure, but it will have to go next to the bench in my living room with a throw over it to serve a secondary purpose as a make shift end table.
I feel kinda dorky cause the purchase is still a few months off, I think I over analyze this stuff.

Then maybe the sb12nsd will be a perfect fit, the price is definitely RIGHT....

It is good for music, fast, accurate, and no noise to speak of... More is better with music systems for sure so if you can swing a pair you may want to do it now before they are unavailable..

Yeah that was one of the biggest problems with the SB12... Adding a second sub later on down the line wont be an issue, but adding a matching SB12 may be being that they are an older model. I could always get lucky on ebay though... I am definitely not opposed to second had equipment, I'll just have to be vigilant. I missed out on an SVS 20-39+ today on ebay that sold for 315.

Here's an outside the box suggestion. Go dual SB-1000's for $1000. One in the corner by the collage, one on the other side of the TV next to the chair. They're small enough that they should fit. Later on, if you feel you need more output you can always add another, an SP-2000, or an SB Ultra and use that as an end table.

1000 dollars is more then I want to spend in one shot, even 750 PC12 is a little on the high side... There are a lot of other projects that need to be done on the house so I am financing my audio purchases with my paypal buy it now credit. I do 6 months no interest, pay off one purchase, buy another. Just purchased my front 3 speakers and paying them off, I will do my sub next but I would like to keep it at close to 100 dollars a month.

While the specs on that sub look really nice... I dont think its attractive at all. A 15" driver would be interesting though...
