2 inch tweeters?

My brother found a pair of Marantz HLM 308's on the side of the road yesterday but one tower has a blown tweeter. It's a 2 inch which I'm having trouble finding any tweeters in that size...

I haven't pried open the face of the tower yet so idk the wattage or impedance of the tweeter but the entire tower wires down to 50w at 8 ohm.

Should I just get a 1 1/8" tweeter and build an adapter plate out of MDF or are there 2 inch tweeters still out there?

The crossovers, cabinets, and everything else in that speaker was designed for that specific tweeter... unless you are lucky enough to happen upon another identical tweeter there are any number of problems you can have with the sound. You can shop ebay and you may get lucky enough to happen upon the specific tweeter your looking for, to me it isn't worth it though.

There are plenty of tweeters with a large faceplate, so if the first suggestion doesn't work then there are other options.

Well spotted! I could not find a picture of the speakers in question, but I had a feeling they used that old CTS tweeter. It never occurred to me someone would make repro copies of them! They were an awful tweeter and used to sell for $1.29 a piece back in the 70s.

AudioKarma folks said this speaker is maybe good for garage audio and used to be part of rack system early 80s.

Don't spend too much money fixing em up. In good working condition they worth about $15

So one retro tweeter is worth slightly more than the pair!
