1980 Kenwood

Hey I have a 1980 Kenwood KR 8050 the balance pot is bad. I'm not able to determine what value it is. 50 ohm / 250 ohm or? anyone know what it is. and possably whre to buy a quality replacement?

Measure the resistance with an ohm meter. It will likely be about 10K. You will need a linear pot. If the circuit uses a dual ganged pot, you are out of luck as these are no longer manufactured. This is a huge problem for vintage audio restoration.

Mouser will be your best source.

Dual gang pots aren't manufactured now? Why not and since when?

Probably for about four years. They are special order and you have to order thousands. Old stock has pretty much run out. I have been able to take some apart and fabricate them, but it is hard to get good synchronous tracking.

Thanks for the tip.The pot has three leads. Which would I use to measure the resistence.

The outer two pins, not the center.
