$1500 Speaker Budget Recommendations

If anybody here has a 5.1 speaker system (not including receiver, stands, cables) that they bought for about $1500, can they please post it here?

That is my budget for speakers and I'm getting frustrated with all the different companies and types of speakers that are out there.

In my budget I'm hoping to get floor standing speakers for the front L/R.

Thanks

Aperion, Ascend Acoustics, Axiom, Rocket, and SVS all make respected products in this price range.

These for $550 for Front L/R
Mordaunt Short 908's

These for surrounds for $270:
Mordaunt Short 912

Matching Center will go about $300
Mordaunt Short 905i

Hsu VTF2 MK2 at $399:

Puts it a little over $1500, but you can swap out the sub for something different. Its a killer system for $1500, as the MSRP on just the fronts is $1100-1200. Heck, it's pretty close to the Audioholics 5k recommended system. (edit: well it was. The $5k system now has the NHT's, last year it had the Mordaunt 906's, 905, and 903's for surrounds).

I'm just doing my homework and kind of in the same boat here. I'm curious about the last post. In your sig, it says you have M&K speakers paired with a Yamaha. I was looking at M&K speakers as they came to mind when I though of dark sound, but they closed their doors recently. Too bad really because I'm actually looking for dark-sounding speakers. I'm just curious why you paired M&K with a Yamaha.

I heard the S-150's at Disney World and they blew me away. That Christmas, i found the 650's under the tree from my wife. I was very impressed that she even knew what M&K was. I don't find them to be dark, but they're definitely not bright. I'd describe them as moderately warm. They're the one part of my home theater that i'll probably never feel the need to upgrade, save moving to a bigger room, at which point i'll probably seek out 850's.

I was torn between the Yamaha 2500 and Denon 3805. Since it was a toss up, i bought the one i found cheaper. My man cave is 12x14x8' and the combination fills the room nicely.

M&K and dark is never a combination of words to have crossed my mind. Neutral is what I think of with M&K.
