hi, have a set of 150 watt powered home subwoffer's, that are to far away from system, to work well, i know the best answer is to get more powerful sub's, my question is, since i have these, i wondered could i power them from another receiver linked to system, so i could boost the volume a tad, i'm not very worried bout damage to these old sub's, not using them anyway, just thought it might worth a try?, what i'm saying about running the sub's from the other linked receiver, there will be no speakers on receiver, but the subs on lfe out, volume of receiver up, sub volume up? almost 50' away from system/rear, i will probably try anyway, but have any of you guy's tryed anything like this?

The power rating of a subwoofer has little bearing on the sound quality it will produce. It needs to be in a properly fitted enclosure and have proper amplification for the size. Then, the specifications of actual audio quality it delivers will matter.

There is no benefit you will get hooking a subwoofer up to a secondary A/V receiver. Just use the receiver you have and split the audio output to the subwoofers within your system and ensure those subwoofers have good amplifiers and are in the correct location for best audio quality.

If they are small, under powered, poorly built units, then you will get all the quality which that affords you.

But, an added receiver will do nothing since the receiver isn't powering them.

thanks, guess i was mislead, noting when turn volume on receiver up, my current subs follow the increased volume, my sub's a infinty b-12's, down fireing, i can feel driver move, but that's about it, all my front sub's are great, just thought by hooking rear sub's up to receiver alone, might improve volume, as it does on front sub's when i turn receiver up, or instead of lfe out, utilize main outs crossover at sub's?

I'm not sure what's powering your sub or if this is a full enclosure with a amp built in or what. But, most amps have a dedicated volume control which can add some level to them. As well, you can turn of the subwoofer output on the AV receiver to properly match the subs to the rest of the system.

I don't see a way you could stack components and get quality sound from things, but if you split them HDMI across two receivers, and then took the LFE channel out at full volume it definitely would be louder. It just won't fix the underlying issues of poor placement and a under powered speaker for the space you are in.

The sub out is volume controlled by the receiver. The subs internal amplifier just amplify the signal it gets by a fixed amount (usually set by the volume know at the back of the sub). This way the sub and speakers play at the same relative volume.
All subs should be connected to the LFE out, some receivers have 2 LFE out.

thanks my main receiver is a yamaha v2095, i don't see a dedicated subwoffer volume on this unit, however, that doesn't mean it's not there, unless you are refering to the selection one can make on screen, wich i have set at plus 10

There isnt a sub volume in the avr other then the setup levels(and possibly trim) but on the back of the sub there usually is one so it can be set to work well with the receiver and the rest of the speakers. Thats a set and forget volume also, the only volume knob that should be in daily use is the main volume that controls everything. It wouldnt work well if we had to control the volume on the speakers and sub(s) separatly

Why not move them closer?

i would like two in rear bac wall behind couch as i have two front center beside each other, work great, plus two rear center is the best set up, for a very very large room, this i learned from audiofile guru's, and it really does work great, hell with those corners

Seriously, I have no life.
50 feet away? How large is your room? How close is the picture from your seated position?
At 50 ft, you would need a very serious sub to make an impression on you.
