I really liked 1408. It was different from most slice and dice horror flicks, as a mainly interior story not observable by others. I though John Cusack was excellent as the only extended performer in the movie. The movie kept disjointing me with all of the false ends to the haunting. The movie even had a "portal" in the tradition of Dracula ("enter freely of your own will...") when Mike Eslin goes over the bridge into the first haunted hotel he visits. Once he crosses that bridge, nothing's going to be right until the journey ends.
