$12K System Power Conditioning

Looking over the just posted 12K system, I'm curious why the Monster surge supressor at about $150 was reccommended over the Tripp Lite version that seems to do about the same thing for about half the price.
I'm refering to the Isobar 6 DBS Premium Surge Suppressor
at $77.50 which offers staged RF filtering between outlet banks, and coax and phone line (for Tivo etc.) protection.</font>

I've got one right here. &nbsp;The thing is built like a tank, excellent fit and finish. &nbsp;Other than the 'stage 2' filters, which I can't figure out from the monster website what that means, it appears to offer every bit as much protection- 2,850 joules and 92,000 amp protection with a 0 ns (!) response time. &nbsp;In addition, it offers noise filters between each outlet pair, so if your amp is plugged into the top pair and the CD player into the bottom, there are two noise filters between them, and three between the amp and outlet.

They however, did not gold plate the plug, but did the coax connections. &nbsp;For half the money, it's my choice. &nbsp;I admit that their website leaves much to be desired, the box is far more informative- telling us for example that in addition to MOV's, there are toroidal balanced chokes and heavy duty ferrite rod-core inductors, as well as VHF and HF capacitors in the circuit. &nbsp;I understand from EE's who have discected them that the design soaks up minor surges so that the MOV's only ever see the big hits and thus tend not to degrade in normal use.</font>

<font color='#000000'>I'll agree with EdR here. The tripplite is all anyone should need. It's also why it's practically a standard for the electronics industry here in the states.
I'll hazard a guess that to most consumers that the name recognition will go to Monster due to the whopping amount marketing that they do.

What is the model of tripplite bar you have?

<font color='#000000'>Amen to that. To my mind, Monster is fully the equivalent of Bose as a company founded mainly on marketing, whose products are, at best, overpriced and at worst, borderline frauds.

Maybe not even borderline. Anyway, they're guilty unless proven innocent in my book. And yes, in a moment of weakness and ignorance a couple of years back I bought a Monster speaker switch box.</font>

I got mine from Parts Express which I heard about on this very site

They carry a complete line of Tripp Lite products including power conditioning, voltage regulators, and isolation transformers as well as their excellent surge suppressors.

A review and sorting out of which of these products might be helpful to us audioholics would be most welcome.

As for the 'installation' of the &nbsp;ISOBAR 6 DBS which I got.....well..it's kind of complex

Just like any other surge suppressor, like a powerstrip on steroids- forgot to mention the all steel case. &nbsp;Just plug it in, and plug in your components.</font>
