I keep seeing you say this... I wonder if the unit was ok.
I mean with my 1015 I can easily hit 120+db and with no distortion.
Very clean sound IMO. The distortion #'s are whats inflated.
I see some of the Yamaha's with inflated power #'s. And most certainly Sony crud.
As well some of the B&K #'s are overboard, granted some are under-rated.
Anyhow, I really think the problem is user error in this case....
That's what I thought too, so I asked around for other's experience. I got back quite a few repsonses that all said the same thing (another forum). I can dig up my thread here as well, but the discussion did not have as many owners. I ran this with my 902s in my bedroom with the only change in the system being the 1014. With them set to large, pure direct and MCACC off, I should have been hearing exactly what this receiver was capable of, should I not? At low levels it was fine, but to get any reall life out of it, I had to crank it to about -15. When I hit -12 or so, distortion was audible. My PM7200 can go considerably louder with no audible distortion. I tried it again with a digital connection and I could turn it up louder, but not too much before distortion was again audible. I haven't had a chance to recheck my findings with the customer who I installed it for, which was originally the plan. If/when I get the chance, I will be doing so.
I mean this reciever is THX certified so how in the world could they manage to "greatly exaggerate" the output?
My receiver is also SELECT certified and I can't say that the 1014 performed to the same level.
