101 Reasons Why NOT To Buy Monster Cable

Seriously, I have no life.
But I will remind you all, the consumer is responsible for how they spend their money. .
Yes, of course, but they cannot be well informed on everything in consumerland, nor are they critical thinkers in most cases:D And, it is most difficult to compete with the marketeers who make it their life's work to figure out how to sell to them, no matter what. And, the regulators have their hands full with other stuff:D

I think the hardest part with Monster is that the consumer isn't just poorly informed, they aren't really making a 'bad' purchase with Monster. I mean, this isn't a Bose system we are talking about - it is audio cables. In test after test after test, Monster Cables tend to perform as well as possible. They meet the demands to maintain a close to 75ohm connection - and do so through the assembly as well (very difficult).

The price is outrageous, but you, at least, aren't getting junk cables which don't perform well. So, while I do steer people to Monoprice, I do not feel like they have been ripped off to bad when they do get Monster - at least you can expect the cable to work well.

I personally, as a custom installer, will only use Monster CIPRO for my in-wall custom installation work. The cable is simply the best I've ever used and my cost (dealer) is similar to what I get on cables from West Penn, Liberty, or other cable manufacturers, yet the Monster TRULY is easier to work with. Notice I said - easier to work with, not 'outperforms'. It doesn't outperform, it simply is easier to install - and that saves me time and money.

As for Pioneer vs. Panasonic - The Elite series does have more markup, but the standard Kuro lineup is very competitively priced and outperforms that Panasonic any day of the week. My 60" Kuro cost me less than $3K from Sams Club. If STORES choose to raise the prices, then that's the stores decision, but there is no question that the Pioneer displays simply have the ability to outperform the Panasonic - ISF calibrated or not.

When I used to work there everyone in the HT department had the Elite 42" top of the line 720p plasma in their home. Price at the store? $4500.. Price for employees? $2100! That is over 100% markup. Panasonic markup is around 35% for their plasma displays so it doesn't even compare. And believe it or not but the manufacturer with the smaller markup was Sony. And while the store does set the price there is a minimum price they can sell for to be eligible to be a dealer which is still a lot greater than the stores cost. And most dealers just follow Pioneer's MSRP so the $4500 was the price recommended by Pioneer.
