Was there a question, or did you just want to post your system and say hey?

I'm looking at upgrading my current system. I'm looking for much louder and more bass.

Take that 1k and throw it on a sub, or two subs. By crossing-over your bass to the sub(s), your receiver will have a much easier time in driving all of the easier upper frequencies in your speakers as well, meaning more undistorted volume. Well, an idea anyways, I see no mention of a sub.

I like my current setup right now, but after reading reviews on other speakers, I'd like to see what I've been missing all of these years. I hear a lot of people say:

"No highs, no lows, must be Bose!"
- overpriced speakers with next to no performance.
- Bose suck........blah blah blah

If my current speakers sucks, I want to hear something in the $1000 price range that will blow my socks off or give me a lot more then what I have now.

I'm actually looking into the sub idea as well and I'm leaning towards:

Axiom EP500
SVS PB12-NSD
SVS PB13-Ultra

I'm just waiting to see what the reviews are on the PB13 Ultra before I make up my mind.

Check out craigsub's godly sub ranking thread in the avsforum. I settled on going for an HSU VTF2-Mk3 myself.

I live in Canada and to get the subs here it'll cost roughly $500. That's not too bad at all, but if they're damaged, I was told over the phone that I would have to pay for shipping both ways! If I could drive down myself and get one I would. They are well worth the money, but there's no more distributor in Canada. I could take the chance, but I would be so pissed if something happened to the box!

If you want to up-grade your mains I recommend you look into these.

I am not sure what you decided on your setup, but I did a quick search on your main speakers the Bose 701. I found this article comparing those exact speakers to 4 other tower speakers, Bose was the most expensive pair and came in 5 place out of 5. I did not read the whole article, but it might give you a place to start. At least it shows you some of the differences between Bose speakers and other speakers.

Pretty much any floorstanders from a reputable brand in that price range will blow the Bose out of the water. My Boston VR2s are $800/pr MSRP (I got them on sale), and destroy anything at any price by Bose.

Sub and speaker options

SVS and HSU both have distributors up in Canada and Axiom is made in Canada so it should be readily available up there.

Audioholics has been working on a shoutout of high end bookshelf speakers which could give you a few leads for the new mains for your system.

AV123.com is currently running a good special on their Onix Rocket speaker system w/ free shipping to the states, but Canada would probably cost extra.

It seems like the more I read the more I wonder just how much I'm missing. I've had this setup for around 7 years maybe more and I get compliments like crazy on it still to this day. But based on everything that I've read recently, it seems like my setup is ***. So, this is why I want to slowly upgrade the old with some new. Thanks for the link.........I think!

I've been actually leaning pretty hard on the Axiom M60 or M80's, but I'm no where near where they are. I'm in BC (above Washington) and they're in Ontario (above Buffalo roughly). So, they'd have to send them to me so that I could listen to them. I'd rather get some recommendations and test those first prior to.

The Axiom site's forum has a list of folks available to demo the speakers. Give it a shot to see if there is anyone closer than I am. If it turns out there is not, shoot me a PM and we can set up a demo. My setup is in the signature.

I second the Rocket recommendation. Heard them at a friend's house and they are very good for the money.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I had a mixed setup of a bose center, second hand B&W 602 bookshelf mains, a pair of JBL rears, and an old second hand B&W 12" sub. I thought it sounded great. I did my research to set it up correctly and it was pretty good I thought. All my friends were amazed but I knew I didn't have good tonal matching because all the mismatches. The more I read the more I was interested in matching all the speakers. That was my primary goal because I thought my B&W mains were pretty good. I went with Axiom all around. M60, VP100, QS8. I was so happy with the tonal match that I missed so much before, but I was simply blown away by the accuracy of the new speakers that I wasn't expecting. An A/B comparision with my B&W 602 to the m60 (yeah I know not fair) was all it took for me to know I was never headed back to audio novice ever again. The midrange clarity and tight low end of the Axiom speakers is simply stunning. After such a difference in speakers, I wondered about my B&W sub and replaced it with a SVS NSD-12 and couldn't believe the differnce in low end punch. The B&W turns out to be pretty musical though. I would rate them even there.

So, with that said if you want to spend the $ go with a full system. You will not regret it. I am not saying that Axiom is the best speakers ever, I am just saying that they are such a step up in quality you can't go back. Also, the new B&W speakers are also very good, probably better than my Axioms. While I have not heard them, there are a lot of really good systems out there that compare with Axiom. Since getting the Axiom, I have found there are better values and better looking speakers that make me want to try them. I'm really partial to the look of the Kef's. So, listen to the folks here. Tell them what is important to you. And they will set you straight.

Oh, and since you are going with a sub, and I know you will, you should consider pairing it with bookshelves and save a little money. I'm thinking the m3's or m2's will replace my m60's which will go in the living room where I need to use the full range they offer. Seems like such a waste to cross them over at 80hz.

gotta agree with this. You'll be blown out of the water by just about anything in that price range that's made by a good manufacturer. Provided you aren't deaf, of course!
