Why do folks like the Spiderman flicks so much?

First off, Spider Man is a very popular character right now and has been for years. That helped the movies. Secondly, the films were very very good- Ebert even called the 2nd one one of the best films of the year. The reviews of both Spidey films were uniformly good. Casting was an important...

    Song editing software?

The tired old "get a Mac" quip is a dumb answer since that's not what he asked. A new computer is obviously an expensive purchase compared to new software. I really like Nero for editing wave files. It's not free, but it's not terribly expensive and it's a terrific peice of software. EAC is...

    LCD TV's

Well, no OLED!:p So much for my crystal ball.:o I'd have to say LCDs have come quite a ways in the couple years since this thread started. I still haven't seen one I could live with as my only TV, but I'd love to have one in my 2nd system for gaming (an area where they seem to excel). I...

Enter to Win: Onix SP3 Tube Amp from AV123!

This is a sweet "little" amp...I say "little" because if you heard it without knowing the actual power rating and had to guess, you'd likely guess about double its rated power! If you're just into 2CH,can deal with just 2 inputs and live without a remote you'd be hard pressed to do...

    spiderman 3, ghost rider

I can't picture Cage as Johnny Blaze. He'd be a sucky Ghost Rider, or so it would seem at first blush.

Blu-ray & HD DVD - Who Has the Upper Hand?

For me HD will be a reality when Denon makes a player that will do BRD & HD-DVD, as well as DVD-A & SACD!:)

    spiderman 3, ghost rider

Cage is supposed to play Ghost Rider, not Spidey. I loved the first 2 Spider Man films- the second I felt was one of the best movies of the year. If the 3rd one has Venom is could be the best of the three!:D

Why is SACD not really succeeding?

Menues are unnecessary. The majority of my DVD-As (and all the newer ones) will play the MC track by default without turning on a monitor. This is purely a matter of how the disc is coded; it's just software. Any mfg'r could code their discs in this manner.

Why is SACD not really succeeding?

By purist do you mean snob? There's no basis for believing that the presence of video will degrade the audio. Of course, there's also no need to include the video if the manufacturer opts not to- a disc is just a carrier. In a digital era it's irrational and shortsighted to...

    samsung bluray

BRD was rushed to market before it was ready. Bear in mind that the current gen of BR discs uses the same encoder that regular CDs use. It's sufficient for most stuff but scenes that are difficult to encode look bad. Very shortly the new encoder will be rolled out and you'll see what BRD is...

Why is SACD not really succeeding?

Given the ability of BRD to carry a DSD signal, SACD is technically already obsolete. They could theoretically put a full resolution SACD onto a BRD alongside a 1080p video at any time (well, as soon as they get the multilayer probs ironed out). In point of fact both of the current HD disc...

pink floyd dvd-a PULSE (a good start)

The beauty of HD-DVD & BluRay is that they have the technical capability to carry the full video while also carrying DVD-A-level sound. If they ever choose to do it is another matter.

Porcupine Tree: In Abstentia CD or DVD-A?

I can easily recommend the DVD-A version over the CD, hands down. And if you end up liking it, their next album, Deadwing, is even more stunning on DVD-A. Better sound, better bass, and a more entertaining surround mix combine with even better music to make a tremendous recording.

Well I finally bought a SUB!!!

It's almost certainly a ground loop based in your CATV. Unplug you cable tv feed from the wall and see if the hum is gone. If so, that's the problem. That's easily solved for $20.

    Neil Young "Living with War"

Musically I really think he's lost his way. I don't give a good God damn about his politics- my problem with him is that I haven't liked any of his stuff since his wonderful Harvest Moon about a decade ago.

How can I play PC music wirelessly outside?

Buy a Squeezebox. That might be a tad over $200. If that's too much, I think a Roku Soundbridge will do what you want.

Fair use Upheld…But Drug Dealer Goes Free

There's is a light-year's worth of difference between illegal and immoral. To this Libertarian, the so-called "War On Drugs" is a farce. It would be more accurate to call it "The War On Civil Liberties." I don't think smoking a joint is any more "wrong" than burning a CD. Now mind you, I...

    Infocus ScreenPlay 4805 and 5700

Whether or not the contrast ratio and overall brightness are really big issues depends upon the rig you'll use them in. If can acheive good light control (ie a very dark room) then either is more than sufficiently bright. If you have to watch with a lot of ambient light then you'll need a bit...
