I don't mind the looks since its all hidden anyway. There was something not right about the sound of the A-500's and I could never be sure just what it was. Switching back to the Yammie proved to me something was wrong somewhere.

That is all good advice and I would only add that if she does not have a job or a trade then she needs to start a trade school or college and get something going. The WORST thing you can do for her is give her a handout. Helping her get her life and career in order is the best thing you could do...

Mine don't do what you describe with the source volume all the way up (mac book) but your source volume may be stronger than mine. However, my volume knob does do what yours does and that is not uncommon. I also have the first generation A5's as well. One speaker may be louder than the other but...

Oh yeah it was a darn good sounding system from what I remember. Plenty loud for playing Boston, STYX, Billy Joel, AC/DC, Pat Travers, Robin Trower. My friends loved bringing over their records to play after school. Those are some of my fondest childhood memories actually.

Mark thanks for that link. I was able to reconstruct my Dads system from the late 70s'. I was in 7th grade when he bought it and the envy of my friends. :) Speakers were the 3-way towers, receiver was the silver one at a whopping 55 watts per channel, turn table was the lab 60, one of the decks...
