Just a word from a non-EE,audio enthusiast............. Does the fact that one speaker cable sounds "different"(not better) than another warrant spending obscene amounts(to most) of cash on them? I would venture to say that for most in this hobby, this could be equated to putting a $3K paint...

Perhaps what hasn't been addressed is the quality of the power being supplied. If any old 16 watts will do, why would anyone spend $3K on a Levinson 2 X 100 wpc amp when a crappy Technics 100 wpc receiver would achieve the same results?

The manual should tell you about hooking up to an amp,although I had a RX-V620 & it didn't have any pre-outs for an external amp. Without pre-outs you can't add an amp to it.

I'd start by cleaning both ends of the FO cable if you haven't already. It could be just a poor connection that is being rattled a bit by the sound. If you have the option of using a dig coax you may want to try that. If not, & cleaning + re-terminating the original FO cable doesn't change...
