Why do we go to movie theaters?

I save it for the big event movies. I have not been in at least 6 months maybe longer. I am holding out for the Hobbit.

NAD C 446 Digital Media Player Preview

Companies like NAD, Adcom, Parasound etc. have been behind the curve on technolgy for awhile. While NAD receivers rocked in the late 80's early 90's, to have a home theater receiver now without Audyssey or an equivalent is embarrassing to say the least. If Emotiva would offer a pre/pro with...

Onkyo TX-NR809. On the fence about it

Not a bad deal for 3 years so long as they are a reputable store and will honor it.

Onkyo TX-NR809. On the fence about it

Any manufacture can have issues. I have had issues with Adcom, a bunch with NAD, Denon, Toshiba, and of course Apple. I would not rule out Onkyo because of it so long as they correct the issue.

Onkyo TX-NR809. On the fence about it

No dice with Crutchfield. Because mine was a so-called scratch and dent they won't let me go up to a new one. So, I am driving to Haverhill mass and drop it off at a service center today.

Onkyo TX-NR809. On the fence about it

Well with all that being said my 808 started acting up tonight. It has an issue with the remote commands not being picked up. It is an issue that Onkyo knows about from what I gather over at AVS. It just started tonight too. I am going to call Crutchfield tomorrow and see if they will take it...

    Difference in sub levels

I think that is exactly what it is. Movies sound fine at the calibrated level and so do concerts. In fact if you raise it the 10 on while listening to them you can instantly tell it is set to high. With music set at calibrated levels it sounds like the subs are not even on. Raise it 10 and bam...

Onkyo TX-NR809. On the fence about it

I have an Onkyo 808 and it replaced my RX V2600. It has been awesome. I would get the 809 in a heartbeat. My 808 runs only warm when pushed hard on multichannel music. In two channel I have not even been able to get the fan to come on from what I can tell. Cool to the touch. Much, much cooler...

    Difference in sub levels

Luckily the Onkyo has a sub level adjustment that reverts back to calibrated setting when powered off. For music I raise it then when I shut off and come back it is back where it needs to be.

    Difference in sub levels

It seemed to low and raising it 10 seems to be correct. Same for CD audio too. Can this be correct or am just not liking the calibrated setting? It really seems way too low. Edit: Ok I have checked a bunch of different 2 channel music and with this receiver the calibrated setting is to low...

    Difference in sub levels

I do have a 2200 but today I was listening to Tom Petty's Mojo on Blu-ray with the DTS MA track. It seems to be the case with this recording as well. If I turn off the sub and set speakers to full range I have all the low end. If I set them back to 80hz sub on I need to raise the setting to...

    Difference in sub levels

Hey guys what are your thoughts on this? When I listen to music either high res two or multi channel or just CDs the subs seem like they are set too low. Raising them up exactly 10db seems to be perfect. Put on a concert or movie and you have to put it back down to the calibrated setting. This...

Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree on the Degradation of Audio Quality & the Music Industry

Good read Gene. Reminds me also that we just bought a new vehicle and it comes with 6 months of Sirius radio. Wow! does the sound quality of Sat radio stink. I can't believe how compressed it is. Some things sound like bad real audio streams. Unfortunately, my wife likes all the 80's stuff so...
