    Bi-wiring a Yamaha Z9 & Energy Veritas V2.3i

Welcome aboard. Nice gear! Speaker Break in is a bit of a misnomer. Beyond 20hrs or so for the bass drivers there really isn't any other "Breakin" occurring. Tweets especially don't break in. As for biwiring, there is little to no benefit in doing this. I would advice picking a high...

Want to improve your bass…Try this.

That's because Yamaha and Denon have some of the best bass management systems on the market. We have seen this issue on the processors built by East Tech and some of the more esoteric flavors. The bottom line is always check your system bass response with an RTA/FFT measuring device if you...

Want to improve your bass…Try this.

Actually its not a matter of opinion, its a matter of fact as experts such as Dr. Floyd Toole and Thomas Holman (formerly of THX) have proven in their research. If you are localizing the bass when the crossover is set above 60Hz its likely either 1) pressure wave detection, or 2) you have the...

    Hot Separates System Recommendation Tip

Mulester; I noticed some misconceptions in your post and thought I would address them. 1) Damping Factor - this is somewhat of a nebulous spec, especially since most manufacturers don't tell you how they measure (ie loading conditions, frequency, etc). Be careful when trying to compare...

Do the Velodyne sub calibration after Audyssey. It has much more resolution for handling bass than Audyssey does.

STEELY DAN: Audiophile perfection in pop/rock

The Dan rocks! Two Against Nature is a great sounding recording and in the usual fashion of Donald Fagen is great music. The only disc I am really unhappy with performance is the Two Against Nature Concert DVD b/c the recording is so harsh sounding. I heard the DVD-A version of that disc...

Want to improve your bass…Try this.

Actually there are cases such as my T2 system where I acheived better bass integration running the satellite speakers large and overlapping the sub. Since they can handle the bass it is not an issue. Then in other rooms I did a T2 system install, they worked best set to small. It all depends...

    Audio analyzers. Which one?

I have the 295C and its very antiquated and limited in function. You can change scale, it has no file management system (primitive store registers), the graphs transer to computer are very poor. Its a good unit for spot checking and calibrating your system, but not so great for publishing the...

RX-V2500 Build Quality and other brands

The Outlaw is essentially a clone of the more expensive Sherwood Newcastle but with added DVI connectors. It looks like a decent processor, but potential buyers may wish to check out this thread at AVS to determine if the Sherwood/Outlaw has the latest firmware to resolve these issues noted by...

    RBH speakers

Mike; The Yamaha/Infinity speakers you mentioned aren't in the same league as RBH Signature Series. They are more comparible to the RBH CT series products. If Signature product is not within your budget, you may wish to check out their MC or CT line up.

    Audio analyzers. Which one?

The phonic one looks like a good option. Also check out Sencore. They have a new portable RTA that looks promising. If you do get any of these, please give us some feedback. Let us know if they have a plotting and graphing feature and if you can adjust the scale. Thanks.

I plan on uploading the software this week and testing it. Please be patient as my schedule is tightly packed for the next few months. Thanks. Update 08/16/05 I just uploaded new firmware which hosed my 5805. I am working with Denon to investigate this situation. In the meantime I am...

All; Thanks for the great compliments. You know I love a good steak as much as anyone but I still haven't dined at Bern's yet. I heard its very good, especially the wine list. FYI, there is a killer Argentina syle place called Latin Grill off of Tampa Road in Oldsmar that IMO has...

Sorry for the bad pics but in all of the confusion and rush for making party preps, I forgot my digital camera in our hotel room and had to rely on others less than perfect shots ;) We will likely hold a public party at one of the trade shows such as Cedia or CES in the future or in my home...

    Pre-Pro under $2000

Personally I would go with a Yamaha RX-V4600 over the ones you listed and use it as a pre/pro. It has a better processing section, HDMI, i.Link and none of the bass management bugs that the Sherwood appears to have.
