Yes they are a bit spendy aren't they? People that can drop that sort of cash on audio equipment don't even break a sweat doing it. I am sure they will do well in that segment despite how niche it is.

I made the image larger in the article. Bigger drivers don't always equate to better subs. As I said in my write up, this sub sounded much larger than it was.

Yea but at what SPL level? :rolleyes: If your mains have built in subs then run them as large but run the rest of the speakers on small set to 80Hz. If you set the xover too low without the ability to independently set the xover for the LFE channel, you may truncate LFE info to your sub...

I doubt it. Heck it took them years of me grilling them to even offer variable crossover points as they were fixed on 90Hz for a long time. Be careful with this feature however as most don't correctly recombine info back to the sub so if you set the mains to 60Hz and surrounds to 90Hz...

Good point and I will remove it. I think the only real strike at this price is the usage of opamps for the center and rear speakers. Personally, I'd rather them ditch the HDMI and upgrade the amps for those channels. You can buy a 4 x 1 HDMI switcher for like $99 or less now.

Typically the Z series from Yamaha are built in Japan. Built in China is not such a bad thing as long as the company ensures everything is being done right at the factory. Most of the so called "high end" products are built in China even if they claim to be American or European companies.

What will be killer is if you can redirect the front channels to the presence channels and then run an external 2 channel amp for the fronts. I will determine if this is possible. This is something I've been requesting on lower than flagship models from Yamaha for years.

Yes the dinner event / costume party is on thursday night. I will be posting a schedule of events shortly. I highly encourage those whom are only attending Friday to get there early as the event will be wrapped up by 3pm. As for my costume, well you will have to wait and see :rolleyes:

This only makes sense for flagship type products that a manufacturer plans on keeping in their lineup for 4+ years or longer. To date, I don't know of any manufacturers that have successfully pulled this off.

Its much worse placing a 2 way MT sideways than a MTM. Also lobing issues of a properly designed MTM are grossly overstated and although are measurable, they are rarely audible if you sit within 20-30 deg off axis from the speaker.

That is a wise upgrade if you've got the $$$ to do it. Somewhere down the road you may also want to add an additional sub for better bass response across all listening seats. Good luck.

According to my sources, the quality of parts (IE. dacs, amp drivers, etc) are better on the Z series. I will be reviewing this in October and will find out then. The trend with all the major receiver manufacturers now is to sacifice amp quality for features and the latest HDMI...
