Dedicated preamp vs. pre-out from receiver

IF your doing home theater, there really is no advantage to buying a separate 2CH preamp if you already have a quality receiver from Denon/Yamaha/Integra. The preamp sections in their $1k and up receivers are very good to excellent. Again if you already have a 3805, don't waste your time...

    DENON AVR-5803 or Yamaha RX-Z9

Ray is correct, 12AWG solid core wire is not a good idea for speaker cables since it will perform poorer than equivalent stranded, be very inflexible, etc. I will eventually do an article comparison for fun when I get back on the cable kick.

Dedicated preamp vs. pre-out from receiver

Peng; The sonic differences between 2 good amps is subtle at best assuming they are operated within their design limits. The advantage the RX-V2500 has over the AVR-3805 via preouts is a slightly lower noise floor which can be audible depending on the amp gain structure and sensitivity of...

Dedicated preamp vs. pre-out from receiver

If your goal is 2ch and hometheater, I would opt for using a moderately priced receiver as a pre/pro. The processing section of the RX-V2500 for example rivals most dedicated pre/pro's in the $2-3k price range. Its really that good! Combine the RX-V2500 with a good 7CH amp and you have quite...

Dedicated preamp vs. pre-out from receiver

The Yamaha RX-V2500 has the best preamp in a $1k system we have seen. It makes for a fantastic processor.

The Emotiva MPS-1 is a very good amp (currently under review) for your application. Its switching design makes it very efficient, cool running and should meet your power needs. Best of all its in your price range of $2000.

    DENON AVR-5803 or Yamaha RX-Z9

Your speculations are incorrect. Glad we have measurements  The maximum any Class A/B amp can deliver out of one 15A outlet is about 120*15*(0.4) = 720 watts. Whether you have a so called powerhouse 7CH amp that boasts 200wpc x 7 yet has one power cord, or the amp section in the...

    DENON AVR-5803 or Yamaha RX-Z9

There is more to performance than just sheer power. As far as power goes, the amps in the 5805 will deliver everything a 15A wall outlet can deliver! The preamp section of the 3805 isn't in the same league as the 5805, nor is the room correction system of the former.

Are High End CD Players Overated?

I think what is most interesting here is that people are debating on spending more money on a CD player to achieve better sonics. Yet nobody talks about investing to the component that actually affects the sound the most - THE ROOM! Getting the loudspeaker to room integration is by far the...
