Pair of Bookshelf Speakers around $400
A "bright" sounding speaker has little to do with its ultimate extension as much as it has to do with proper crossover integration and the quality of the tweeter and xover components used. Most annoyingly bright speakers simply have the tweeter level set too high with respect to the woofer, or...

Ya just gotta love Black Friday.
they should arm the Walmart employees with tasers during these sales events. You know something is lacking in these people's lives waiting in line at the local Walmart 5am to save a few bucks on a $79 Mintek DVD player.

Yamaha RX-V2500 Analog LFE-Boost
This reminds me of the same issue that plagued DVD-A/SACD via analog transmission. I see now it has crept into Blu ray when decoded in the player. Most of the newer Denon receivers offer a +10 to +15dB boose via the multi channel inputs for the sub. I don't believe your Yamaha RX-V2500 has...

So it could do a top rate job of playing SACD with proper bass management while also doing well for home theater and music

Understood but I submit to you anyone setting up a multi channel sound system solely for SACD playback isn't buying an RX-Z7 to do so

Paul, That is great if you set up your room for one listener but 5 full range speakers is usually NOT the way to go for home theater, especially when doing alot of movie watching. We wrote a little article about this, and faced off against some of the recording engineers whom sadly didn't...

Not really, regardless of what class of amp employeed, you still need a good power supply with plenty of capacitance to minimize PS ripple, especially during heavy power demand.

Using Pure Direct will bypass your system bass management. So unless you are running all full range speakers, sitting equadistant from all speakers, and have perfect bass convergence for your listening area doing so (highly unlikely), then you should NOT run pure direct and instead use the...

The issue here is once you use bass management in the receiver, the DSD is converted to PCM which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've read nothing that indicates converting DSD to PCM results in loss of fidelity.

Standard E-Core. I also notice the parts in the Z7 are higher quality than in my RX-V2700 such as the PS capacitors, xformer and other key parts.

All; I snapped a few pics of the guts of the new Yamaha RX-Z7 and Pioneer SC-07 receivers. A few interesting things to note: Both receivers are rated for 140wpc yet the RX-Z7s xformer appears to be about 20-25% larger than the Pioneers. The RX-Z7 has 2 x 18,000uF 71V caps while the SC-07...

Elemental Designs A6-6T6 Floorstanding Speaker Review
I don't think that's a fair comparison considering that the Pinnacle's are now discontinued and also retailed for nearly double the price. The Pinnacle's had a much better tweeter and better executed crossover design. The also had superior bass extension to the eD's. Tom will be reviewing...

great suggestions guys. I just got in my test unit and running it through my performance tests before sitting down to do any listening. I will also directly compare 2CH audio of the Z7 to the SC-07 and RX-V2700 if time allows.

All; I am receiving an RX-Z7 sample at the end of this week for review. Please feel free to post your requests on stuff for me to check during my review process and I will do my best to do so. This is going to be a cool review as I have two other receivers in house to compare against...

His middle name should be Tiberious NOT Siberious. Also, Kirk never served aboard the Enterprise until he was captain so its obvious they aren't following canon.

I feel their pain. Had that happened to us, I'd likely lose some hair on the top of my head. Lord knows I can't afford any more of that these days :o

Emotiva XPA-2 Two Channel Amplifier Review
Um actually you may have it in reverse. That being the case, Parasound makes some great amps so if it were true, man that would be a heck of a bargain. Emotiva manufacturers amps for MANY prestigious brands. You would be surprised how small this industry really is. I note by your post...

since Monster has gone on a campaign to sue anyone using the word "Monster" in their business, we decided it was time for a Primer on Trademarks. When they stop suing, we will stop writing about it so my advice is to get used to it :D
