A blind test for amplifiers makes no sense. You can very easily level match and switch amps with a switcher without knowing which one you are listening to. No need to do it blind. For those that think all amps sound the same, I salute them as in the long run it will save them a lot of time...

Finally a voice of reason. I am looking forward to measuring the Pioneers. They do tend to be a bit treble heavy but they aren't fatiguing. I suspect the tweeter level is set a tad high for zing effect but damn do they sound sweet for such little $$$ I don't want to taint my subjective...

I beg to differ. Even at below driving amplifiers to their limits, amplifiers can and do perform differently and it does translate to sound differences to. We've run many fun experiments in the past here using a Panasonic Class D receiver and a Marantz linear amp and at low power levels people...

An amp with more headroom can and does improve the fidelity of sound, especially when driving music at louder listening levels. Of course if you're of the opinion that all amps sound the same, then by all means get the cheapest A/V receiver that has the features you need and use that.

This is a prime example of offering poor advice not based on any personal experience with the equipment in the recommended list. It's easy to sit behind a chair and criticize but it takes far more effort to integrate and test systems which in this case is exactly what we've done. The Pioneer...

Yes agreed but I believe its more than a simple THD sweep can reveal. When you hear how effortless brass instruments sound on this speaker at any listening level, its quite amazing. How the speaker loads sound into the room b/c of so much cone area has something to do with it as well.

Sadly lately I haven't listened to them at all. I've been slammed with work and holiday preparations. I spent more time this week listening to the Pioneer speakers which isn't such a bad thing at all ;)

no doubt, their website is severely lacking. The Status product isn't something you'd want to order online anyways. It's the type of product you would want to speak to the designer so he can build your pair to meet your specific requirements and possibly fly out to help you setup.
