When to Add External Amplification to an A/V Receiver

You are assuming a speaker is a simple resistor. It is NOT. You are assuming an audio signal is a simple steady state tone. It is NOT. There are many factors that affect sound quality. I am not in the camp that ALL amps sound the same if not driven beyond their linearity. I've heard...

When to Add External Amplification to an A/V Receiver

That is a very closed minded opinion and a narrow analysis of a complex steady state problem using static analysis. As someone who not only reviews amps and speakers for a living, but has also designed amps and holds an EE in analog engineering, I would never make a statement like that nor do I...

When to Add External Amplification to an A/V Receiver

Very good points but separate amps tend to drive demanding speaker loads a lot better than budget or even midpriced AV Receivers. Even at lowish power levels we have found audible differences. It really depends on speaker type, room acoustics and source material.

When I implemented the Google Panda SEO fix on our site by simplifying our folder structure, we had to kill our navigation. Now we have a very simple Navbar with a site map at the bottom of the page, global. This works ALOT better. Nobody uses NAvbars anymore. 70% of our traffic is new and...

When to Add External Amplification to an A/V Receiver

thx. LOL well I just added a section about what to do with the unused amps in the receiver so you can tell her you need to upgrade so you can power speakers in another room or run a full 9.1 system with height channels :)

We will NEVER be as big as CNET but we certainly have far more traffic than any other AV Review Magazine. However, it's still a challenge to be taken seriously by some manufacturers that still have their head in Print which by all intents and purposes is an obsolete format.

How to Use A Speaker Selector for Multi-Room Audio

I hear what you're saying but also feel you are over generalizing. There are some speaker switches that are better than others at doing this job, like this one: Aton DLA6 Six Zone Speaker Selector Preview | Audioholics Running a distribution amp is typically the best option as you point out...

Revealing Flaws in the Loudspeaker Demo & Double Blind Test

Again you're not really running a true DBT unless you don't know what speakers are being tested, the person running the test doesn't know what speakers are being tested, and the person analyzing the data doesn't know what speakers are being tested. Single Blind Test is sufficient. Also, all...

Excellent observations and I agree 100% However, Single Blind Tests are adequate even for cable testing. True DBT's are very difficult and often impractical to setup. Thanks for the feedback.

I understand but please realize most of our competition does 1 page press release style reviews. Hence why we came up with the Preview concept.
