    Denon AVP-A1HDCI / POA-A1HDCI Review Support Thread

both E-core and torroid can be designed well or crappy. Just b/c one amp uses Ecore and another uses torroid doesnt make the latter better. The advantage of torroids can be reduced size and reduced E/M field radiation until it reaches its saturation point. Than it is just as bad as a...

    Denon AVP-A1HDCI / POA-A1HDCI Review Support Thread

congrats on your purchase. If you check out my POA review, I discuss the amp topology in great detail. Its sorta a mono block in that it has separate power caps and rectification for each channel but not an individual power supply per channel. It actually has 4 E-core Xformers and is fully...

What features would you give up for a more audio centric A/V receiver?

Agreed though I think composite video is more useful than s-video. I have tons of rca cables and a handful of s-video. So I'd rather give up s-video over composite. I forgot to add the option of auto room correction but I think most companies would leave that in as a perk, especially if its...

What features would you give up for a more audio centric A/V receiver?

Guys; Based on my article: Trading Amplifier Quality for Features - A New Trend in A/V Receivers? I propose that some of our favorite brands come out with a line of Audio centric A/V receivers available only through Specialty Outlets. I suggest price points from $600 - $1500 that...

Trading Amplifier Quality for Features – A New Trend with A/V Receivers?

Please re-read my article. I never said the 2092 was a replacement for the DSP A3090. Also the only difference between an integrated amp vs a receiver is the lack of a tuner in the former.

Um have you seen the latest offering from H/K? I think Not! Not if they are based on ICE topology. I agree at a $1k or less price point on receivers, they shouldn't even try to offer fancy HDMI upscaling. Make the video pass thru and focus on amp quality.

Trading Amplifier Quality for Features – A New Trend with A/V Receivers?

No. It's their own proprietary design. No ICE amp that I know of can put out over 500wpc continuous for full bandwidth into 4 ohms like the Axiom amp I just tested does. Best of all, it does it at under 0.1% THD + N.

I wish I could see them. Apparantly Verizon blocks them out entirely as I can't see them on any of my home computers even when I turn off my firewalls and virus protection programs.

Trading Amplifier Quality for Features – A New Trend with A/V Receivers?

While I agree the Axiom amp is pricey it is MUCH more powerful than any Ice module I've ever seen, especially when driving full power bandwidth into 4 ohm and less loads. The phase response on ICE is quite horrific but it was originally designed to be a subwoofer amp only. While ICE sounds...

Trading Amplifier Quality for Features – A New Trend with A/V Receivers?

In hindsight the 663 perhaps was too much amp for the money and Yamaha released it as such to gain marketshare. Still, the 665 at this price point is just sacrificing too much performance from what I am seeing. I will try to get one in for review to bench test it but its unlikely they will...

Output voltage is only part of the equation. Drive level in terms of what load impedance it can deliver that voltage is also important. Its important to note what impedance the manufacturer is rating the Voltage level to as well. Distortion and SNR are also important factors as well...

Guys; I added the following statement fo my aticle regarding Denon: One thing about Denon (as of recent) is when they don't make a direct replacement model in terms of power/performance within a series, they don't continue to increment the model structure the same way (ie. the AVR-4308CI...

weight is only 1 indicator that should be observed regarding build quality and parts usage. Its best to know the true KVA rating of the transformer, the size of the power caps and the type of output devices used for the amp. The Emo XPA-2 is able to double power with halving load impedance...

The electrolytic caps are typically the only thing that degrade with age. You should get a good 15-20 years out of them before having to replace them. The more you use them, the longer they will last. Amp technology from 10 years ago was very good so a linear a/b of 10 years ago will be...

6 ohm setting on A/V receiver?

Actually it really offers no protection for the receiver. All it does is allow it to clip sooner so when UL tests heat dissipation at 1% the receiver will reach 1% at a lower power level and pass their test. The switch is only there for that purpose. It should NEVER be used for normal...

Official Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver Review Thread
