14/4 has an effective gauge of 11AWG when using all 4 conductors to single wire a speaker. It is easier to terminate and more flexible than 10AWG. I use 10AWG all throughout my house and it's a pain in the A55 especially when trying to terminate it to a VC or in-wall speaker.
