Pioneer Elite 2012 SC Series Reciever Offerings Preview

Great comparison thanks for sharing it! If you look at my review of the Pioneer SC-07 you will see why this is the case. The ICE amps implemented by that generation of Pioneer receivers had issues with 4 ohm loads. I showed this in my test results and was crucified on AVS forum as a result...

    EMPtek ES1010i Subwoofer Review

The sub will only turn on when there is enough bass signal sent to it. If you aren't listening to bass intense music or movie, than the sub won't likely activate. Try this, turn on your A/V receiver and immediately play something with a lot of bass and turn up the volume of your A/V receiver...

Before dumping your RBH subs you may want to call RBH and inquire about upgrading to their SE/R versions which employ their new higher excursion drivers and more powerful amps.

    EMPtek ES1010i Subwoofer Review

The only reason it would do that is if the input signal is too low and the auto on/off circuit times out. I can't recall if the sub has a always on power option. If it does, try that. Also try turning up the sub level of your AV receiver and turning the sub level down on the sub to see if...

Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol Blu-ray Review

DTS has the potential to be sonically superior to DD not just b/c of less compression but also better separation in the surround channels. I had a detailed discussion about this with a head guy at Dolby years ago and he acknowledged it. DD was designed to be efficient so it could easily stream...

Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol Blu-ray Review

I've been wondering this myself for a long time but have been unable to arrange an interview with anyone at Dolby or DTS to uncover the reasoning why.

Paradigm Signature Sub 2 Subwoofer Review

I seriously doubt the DSP delay is more than a few ms which would equate to a distance of 2-3ft. I've never run across a DSP sub that had more delay than that! This is a NON issue as evident when Josh measured the summed response of the sub with his main speakers in his room and didn't have...

    Mark Schifter Arrested Again

Hey guys, let's try to be a little reserved regarding Mark Shifter and posting these threads on this forum about him. Hopefully he learned from the consequences of his actions and is remorseful and growing spiritually as a result. It doesn't feel right taking pleasure in other people's misery...

Center Channel Speaker Design Additional Considerations

Excellent points as always. I think we all could agree, if we could match the 3 front speakers with vertical arrangement of drivers, that would be the best solution. But this involves using a Perforated screen and not mounting the screen against the wall, unless you use an in-wall center channel.

Center Channel Speaker Design Additional Considerations

I am sure many will disagree with me but I still find a well designed MTM can perform admirably horizontally oriented as a center channel provided you don't sit that far off axis. The advantage of an MTM over a W(T/M)W is you have more efficiency in the critical midrange area (500hz-2kHz) by...

Steve Wilson "Grace for Drowning" Blu-ray 5.1 Music Release

agreed, recording quality is top notch too. Steve has done a fabulous job combining the best of progressive rock in the 70s while also adding his own flare to it. But don't put this disc on if you're looking to cheer up a dull day ;)

From $499 to $399 to $599, EMPtek, what the %#!

Hmm I based my review on a $499 price but if they raise the price it will of course lower the value rating I assigned it at the time. If you click into their product page it says $499: EMP Tek ES1010i Subwoofer The $399 price was a short term sale as they are probably trying to get this...

Wow this is certainly turning out to NOT be a “Good Friday”. It’s unfortunate that Axiom posted this without consulting with me first to examine the facts but I can understand their frustration. EMP Impression (E55Ti Tower / E56Ci Center / ES1010i Sub & E55WI Surround) Review

I recommend you run the towers full range and crossover the center and surrounds at 80Hz. If the center is placed in a cabinet, try plugging the ports and using some Auralex Mopads to isolate it from the shelf like I discussed in the review. If your tweeter is buzzing, have EMP send you a...

New Speakers Best bang under $500?

It's a very valid point that I've been considering for a long time. The EMPs don't play that low but they play extremely loud and you can't bottom out the woofers as a result. If you mate them with 1 or 2 subs and run them full range, you get plenty of deep bass and lots of mid bass slam from...

New Speakers Best bang under $500?

The dips in the 200-300Hz range is a measurement anomaly and is NOT product related. Had I measured the speaker using Groundplane below 300Hz, the issue wouldn't be there but I also would be missing port contribution. Going forward I will likely do this when measuring in-room or perhaps do a...

$6,500 Home Theater System - Great Looks & Performance

14/4 has an effective gauge of 11AWG when using all 4 conductors to single wire a speaker. It is easier to terminate and more flexible than 10AWG. I use 10AWG all throughout my house and it's a pain in the A55 especially when trying to terminate it to a VC or in-wall speaker.

$6,500 Home Theater System - Great Looks & Performance

No but the remote on the old RX-Z7 is good enough and its what I use. I agree, get a separate remote and I probably should update the article. I am not much of a remote person as I am too lazy to program them, especially since I'm always changing out gear. Acoustic treatments are important...
