Plethora of Garbage

Seems movies just aren't as original or as well concieved as they have been in the past. Maybe I'm just getting too old and have pretty much seen it all before, but there just hasn't been as many flicks out there recently that I find all that appealing. I'm hoping this summer's crop will end...

    Is it just me??

....or in some cases ONLY offer them as boxed sets, and not individually..like Godfather..and the Star Wars trilogy will be when it's released in Sept. My least favorite DVD scam is when they release the special edition after the collector's edition after the limited collector's special...

Pioneer VSX-41 Elite: Sub "Tweaking" Question

Actually your sub will likely reach almost any low frequency that you might encounter from a movie or music, it's just that the level at those frequencies will be so low that they become inaudible. Usually the low rating of a given sub is where the low frequency level dips below the audible...

    Bass Management

While I can't speak for every receiver, I think it's safe to say that most will route low frequencies from the center and surround speakers set to "small" to the main L/R speakers if they are set to large. Nothing is "lost".

Quitting ....What??? I never said that. Anyway...I'm glad you like your system Abe. I'm sure the Bryston is not as good as most might think, but I probably would have kept it if I'd have had to the money to afford in the first place, it could have always been integrated into a HT powering the...

    Do specs "lie"?

Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it.???... Actually I'm selling them for less than what you can get them for individually so I'm still offereing a good deal. They are still available by the way.

    New Amp Questions

The amp section in most H/K's is very solid, and are ususally very conservatively rated. I doubt that there would be much of an improvement using the carver amp and from what your saying it sounds like I might be right.

    Do specs "lie"?

Simple really, I'd like to get what I paid for them so I can turn around and buy 7 at once and get the quantity discount. I bought mine before they started offering them this way.

autocalibration vs avia and SPL meter

Radio Shack SPL Meter I couldn't say which method would be better, but buying the SPL meter wouldn't be a bad idea. It can be used for so many other small tests that it's well worth the cost, even if you do decide to get the mic for the 3805 also.

    Do specs "lie"?

I think Oultlaw's amps are fine products. I was curious if you were consdidering the 755, why not also consider 5 monoblocks M-200? The price isn't that much different, and then each channel would have it's own power supply an not have to share two as in the 755. Just food for thought.

    Separate amplifier (s) or internal?

If you provided more information on your Yamaha receiver and the speakers it would be easier to help. Ultimately though, if you are happy with it now, there's no need to spend more.

    Line Conditioners, Power Strips

Pat. Thanks for speaking up I appreciate the advice. I certainly would not take anything you said as argumentative. My only reservation about Monster has been their business philosophy to sale their products at what I would consider ridiculous margains. I had the displeasure of working for...

Type of products you would like more reviews of ?

I'd like to see a review of Outlaw Audio's new LFM-1 Subwoofer. At $579 I'd like to know how it compares to HSU or more expensive models, like the recently reviewed Velodyne.

    Line Conditioners, Power Strips

Tripplite isobar 12 ultra Funny that Dan mentioned the Tripplite as that was what I ended up ordering before I read his recommendation. As important as anything was the ability to have something to contain all 7 of the power connections in a somewhat organized fashion, that might also protect...

I think the lesson to be learned in this thread is that people need to be a little less consumed by brand loyalty. Brand loyalty was some grand scheme a marketer came up with to keep the buying public in with his product. I'd like to think that components are a little like...

Using DTS when receiver does not support it

There's no way to convert a digital coax connection to a six channel analog connection. If your dvd player doesn't have multi-channel analog outputs (R,L,C,RS,LS,SW) then you won't be able to use/decode DTS soundtracks from DVDs with your current system.
