does the denon 4311 still rein supreme?

If it's 15W then it's even less than 1 dB overhead. :D Yep, use the other two speakers for Zone 2. Any particular reason why you are looking at the 4311?

does the denon 4311 still rein supreme?

Yes, the X4000. Significantly cheaper, offers XT32 room correction and includes some features which are not found in the 4311 like Zone 2 HDMI, Instaprevue, DTS Neo:X etc. The 4311 offers more power and the option of expanding to 11.2 which may or may not be relevant. Comparatively speaking...

Why are guitar amps bad examples?

Emotiva XPR-1 1kwatt Mono Amplifier Review

What generalisations have been made exactly? Been there and done that. Amplifier clipping is not the death sentence that people make it out to be. However it's not something I recommend people go and do for fun. :D

Emotiva XPR-1 1kwatt Mono Amplifier Review

It's a comment I've heard before online and thought it would be relevant to the other posters. It's not a direct quote, I never copied and pasted anything, but I do remember something similar being posted years back. Your point? Do you have an actual argument here to address my other points...

Emotiva XPR-1 1kwatt Mono Amplifier Review

If clipping an amplifier does not result in enough distorted power to damage the speaker then no amount of clipping will damage the speaker. I've clipped a few low-powered amplifiers with my speakers into gross distortion and they survived the onslaught just fine. If the average power increased...

Emotiva XPR-1 1kwatt Mono Amplifier Review

Which is yet another myth. Clipping by itself can't harm drivers. Guitar amps generate lots and lots of gross audible distortion from clipping, but speakers survive it just fine. Clipping can be harmful if the additional power exceeds the thermal rating of the speaker. Since that is what causes...

Emotiva XPR-1 1kwatt Mono Amplifier Review

You have it backwards - applying to much continuous power can burn speakers out, or burn the voice-coils. Applying too little power will never cause thermal damage. If that was the case then every time you turned the volume down it would burn speakers out.

    Marantz PM6005 Integrated Amplifier Review

What is the point of these reviews without any hard data, like power measurements? Otherwise we're just reading the same-old same-old hyperbole that we read about in just about any magazine.

    AVR DSP and HT bypass

    Home Theater Magazine is dead

Thanks. The only reason I even considered the Marantz was because of the look. :D Not because I think there is any inherent sound quality difference. Although the aesthetics may play a part in perceived improvement in sound quality over the Denon, so I suppose I shouldn't complain if I do get a...

    Home Theater Magazine is dead

That's disappointing. Please double check and let me know. Even a $500 Sony receiver can muster 122 watts into an 8 ohm load into 2 channels and 76 watts into 5 channels. That doesn't sound all too impressive for such a pricey receiver. I was thinking of getting either this or the X4000...

    Home Theater Magazine is dead

I checked their online site and at least online they haven't published any review on the 7008. Could you please tell me what the measurements show for the power into 2 channels and 5? Thanks!

    AVR DSP and HT bypass

Hi, Just wanted to ask, if you switch all DSP modes off in an AVR so that it is direct, then would there still be any merit in buying an integrated amplifier with a HT bypass mode, or the direct setting in an AVR be essentially the same thing as the AVR would not be negatively impacting on the...

    SVS SB12 NSD Thoughts?

Nice. Did you get a chance to listen to them first before ordering, or did you just order based on word of mouth? I look forward to hearing your impressions once they are delivered!

    SVS SB12 NSD Thoughts?

Wow! Your sub is absolutely massive! I would be kicked out the house if I had a sub like that. I'm sure it sounds and performs brilliantly though.

    SVS SB12 NSD Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion, but my wife would never accept a black support column. :D Took a look and it's just ... it just looks horrible to me. No offense to anyone, it's just my opinion but that's a no-no for me. I need a subwoofer that is compact and can be hidden.

    SVS SB12 NSD Thoughts?

It's not that I am concerned about the quality of ported subwoofers. Size is a factor for me, plus the fact I'm in an apartment, otherwise I would get dual PB12's and call it a day. :D I'm sure the big ported subs will not disappoint, especially for movies, but that PB12 sub is HUGE. It would...

    SVS SB12 NSD Thoughts?

Yeah, for me, size is an issue. I probably could get away with a PB1000 subwoofer, but it's just so damn big. :D I want something that looks good and is small, but can still deliver the goods for movies and music. I haven't used a subwoofer in a few years, so I guess anything will be a big...
