Watched Gladiator 2 this weekend. Something went wrong with my 4k disc. It started glitching out at around 35mins in. So I had to finish watching it on the blu ray. Having to downgrade.....such first world problems.....hahaha! :p

Story was ok, nothing new. Denzel was clearly the acting winner in this movie. He seemed to enjoy his character in this movie. Which, it wasn't really different than some of his previous roles in other movies, but he just does it well. The worst acting job came from Connie Nielsen. She reprised her role as Lucius's mother. I'm not sure what Ridley was doing with this movie. It didn't need to be made. Someone needs to rein in Ridley and only give him $50m budgets and let him get creative, instead of just handing him $100m+ and going crazy. Picture and sound were good. From the 30mins I got from the 4k, the picture was crystal clear. ZERO grain. So all the grain haters will love it! The Atmos was pretty solid throughout. Lots of surround and height effects going on while in Rome and during some other fights.

Overall, I'm giving the movie a 7/10. It's generous. Only because Denzel did great for what he had to work with. If Denzel wasn't in it, this would easily be a 6/10. :)

Struggled through Cap: New World Order between Sat and Sun. It felt like it should have been a straight to D+ release. The visuals in the big scenes were pretty bad, as far as "we saved money here" and the story was pretty par for the course. There were some interesting moments, but overall I see why it is rated the way it is. It felt very phoned in.

Another reason against physical discs. I noticed some of my discs over time became defective even just sitting there.

Doesn’t happen to DIGITAL 4K ATMOS files. Always perfect if the original file is perfect. ;)

Yeah, the day will come when I invest heavily in K-scape and go away from disc collector. I am ripping all my 4k's and will be getting a Zidoo UHD8000 soon. Going to try that route for the time being. Now the most time consuming part is getting all my 4k's ripped.....haha!

Regarding the Gladiator 2 4k disc, I burned the disc right away, before watching it. I don't believe the disc drive laser would've damaged the disc. My Panasonic UB820 has been acting funky the last month or so, so maybe it could be the player? I watched the scenes from my ripped version and there were no issues with it. I did purchase another UB820, but haven't taken it out of the box yet. Maybe I should setup the new one and see if it's actually my current player.

My Oppo 205 has issues with newer discs, most often on the layer change. Many updates after it came out were to fix those sort of issues, but no more updates. Though rare, it does occasionally happen to me. So far, the PS5 has played everything I've ever run into that had an issue on the Oppo though.
