Question about HDMI 2.0

Quick background then I will jump into my question.

I am currently deployed and after each trip I normally splurge a little and get something nice for my HT or my computer. That being said I am looking to upgrade my AVR.

My question is, with HDMI 2.0 specs being announced not too long ago does that mean the prices of older models 1.4ab should be dropping in price soon? I am guessing that it is more than just a simple firmware update.</SPAN>

Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search for HDMI 2.0 and found nothing.

It's going to be a mixture. There will be no new cables needed as long as the cables you have can handle the extra bandwidth needs. However, for the players there is no universal answer AFAIK. Last I knew HDMI.org was deferring to the manufacturers. Some manufacturers are saying they will only need a firmware update, but HDMI.org said that you might need a firmware and hardware update depending on your player and so they deferred to the manufacturers to answer for sure.

Assuming HDMI 2.0 receivers start showing up in the summer 2014 generation, you're still not going to match 2013 Thanksgiving/Cyber Monday sale prices on 1.4 receivers until much later in 2014.

A better question is, do you even needed HDMI 2.0? The features that make a good argument are, Ultra HD (aka. 4K), dual HD streams and native 21:9 video. These features will not be properly implemented in mid level products any time soon. When they are, receivers with HDMI 2.0 will be commonplace.

I was hoping to see new AVRs coming out and prices dropping.

A few years back I got an itch and bought my front setup (L/C/R). It just made different problems by just throwing money at the problem and not doing enough research into what I wanted or what I could have. My brother also talked me into buying from his wholesaler. These were all big mistakes hindsight</SPAN></SPAN>.

The wholesaler was out of the center channel I wanted so I got the smaller CMX 25C , which has Power Handling of 125 watts. For my right and left channels I got their CMX 212 with Power Handling 300 watts. I had some small satellite</SPAN> speakers from an all-in-box HT set up and it felt unbalanced, so I came here, to the forums, to ask for help and was pointed towards a great buy, the QS8. Axiom states that max handling power for 400 watts but they also give a min of 10 Watts a stat that Cerwin Vega does not make available</SPAN>. (I still am using the standalone sub from my Yamaha box set)

I hear that sometimes the speaker can damage the amp buy trying to draw more power than the amp can produce. I have thought about getting an independent </SPAN>amp for my right and left, but my current AVR, Sherwood Newcastle R-774bk doesn't seem to have preamp outputs. To add fuel to the fire, the video hasn't been displaying when being turned on every now and then. So I thought it might be time to upgrade. I have looked at the preamp/processor with amp route for the future upgrade potential </SPAN>but it doesn't seem very cost effective.

This is my current plan. Once I get home I am going to see if I am capable of a bi-amp connection with my hardware set up. If I am not able or my R-774 is acting up more than it has, than I will be looking into getting a Denon AVR-X4000 or go the extra mile and run with AVR-4520CI. If any of you have some better suggestions please let me know I am open to ideas.

Thanks for those who read this far.

I was hoping to get a flagship model once they started to make the 2.0. I don't need to make the jump to 4k.
