I have an Onkyo tx-nr709 receiver, Panasonic gt50,U-verse and Take classic 5.1.....I can't seem to figure out why my tv volume fluctuates. It seems to happen mostly during playback of recorded content but also some live broadcasts. It goes from normal to very low and back, never loud. I did the firmware update on my Onkyo but it hasn't helped....any advice? Thanks!

Try a soft reset by unplugging it for 5 minutes and if that doesn't work, a hard reset by holding Video 1 and pressing the Power button. Note: the hard reset will wipe out all your settings.

Yes like he said it will reset everything back to when you got it new. You can try running mic aud and rechecking wires/HDMI connections, before you try resetting it, I would.

I am assuming you mean a reset of my receiver?
Yes. A soft reset simply clears out the buffers and temporary stuff, kinda gives the processor a blank slate to start from. A hard reset puts the receiver to factory fresh condition deleting all saved calibration and configuration settings.

Does it happen when source audio changes formal? For instance, from program to commercials and back?

What about on different sources? Does it happen for your disc player and tuner stations?

If it only happens for one source, it is highly likely that audio format changes are causing different decoding/processing with levels changing in accordance.

I haven't noticed any fluctuations on blu-ray, DVD, music, gaming, etc.. It's only during broadcast tv.....I don't think it happens during commercials either.

In that case, I don't think the receiver is malfunctioning. It must be related to input signal and how it is decoded/processed. Try to keep track of this to determine if there is a trend.

Don't even bother with the hard reset just yet.

I would not reset anything as there is nothing wrong with your receiver. Commercials are all over the place volume wise. Mainly mixed really loud to get your attention. Audyssey Dynamic Volume can help but it's not that great and has a slow response to volume changes.

Sorry for the delay getting back......so, I've noticed it only happens (that ive noticed) during broadcast tv like news channels, and on DVR'd playback and when played at slightly louder volumes to begin with. Hard to explain.....and a bit frustrating.
