I'm not so picky, just too poor to buy things that I can't at least pretend sorta kinda fit my needs. :D

Figures! that would be the perfect amp for what I need, guess I'm not as picky as fuzz?? :), but the timing is wrong. Why is it always that way...you'd think in this booming economy I could spend like a drunken sailor, but alas...

Oh now common. You know you need it. It is boxed up and ready to go. UPS will be here later today so it can be shipped today and be at your door in a few short days. Let me know where you are and I will work you up a great price shipped to your door.
Shipping is the least of my worries, I can afford that :) - it's the other part I just can't do in the near future - at least, not if I plan to continue living indoors. Fuzz, my wife would say I am far more delusional than you, then, since I am having no trouble believing this is exactly what I need - despite perfectly good functionality of the system according to her...Maybe I need to try harder to blow up the receiver....hmmm...I'll let you know how that goes...

After months of wearing down a work colleague I got him to take the amp home with him to "test" out. Got a call this morning with the message of "WOW". He has several PSB speakers which I don't think could really sing with his older Marantz receiver.

So I am calling this sold.:D

I have not. I was going back and forth for about 3 hours last night sitting in front of the computer reading reviews and owner reviews and arguing with myself. I decided that I'm going to go with 8801 so now I have to take another look at the finances and see if that's doable right now or if I'm going to have to wait a few weeks.

The arc welder (assuming it arrives as described and in good shape knock on wood) is a Cinepro 3K6SE MKII. 450@8 700@4 1000@2 (all conservative ratings). It's 6 channels and can be bridged to 3 channels for 1200@8 and 1400@4 into 3 channels. It's also got over 3.5db of headroom.

That is one serious amp. Very nice.

I just could not see spending that much on the 8801. I went with the 4520 as it is nearly identical and the Denon dealer I worked with gave me a price nearly $1000 under MSRP. That was a huge saving and all I had to give up really was the balanced connections (which I am still bumming about). I know you don't "need" the amps build in to the 4520 but seriously consider it and I can give you the number to the Denon guy. I would definitely go with the 4520 (which has a preamp mode by the way) over the 7701 and I don't know of anything lacking on the 4520 that the 8801 has with the possible exception of a toroidal transformer.
