What the hell kind of dumb-*** leaders do the Boy Scouts have, anyway?

'A group of Boy Scouts leaders may face criminal charges after purposely knocking over an ancient Utah desert rock formation and posting a video of the incident online, authorities say.
The men were leading a group of 14 to 16-year-old Boy Scouts on a trip to Goblin Valley State Park when they said they noticed the top of the rock formation was loose and feared it was dangerous.

"This is about saving lives," Dave Hall, who shot the video, told The Associated Press on Friday. "One rock at a time."'

This formation has been here, minding it's own business, for 170 MILLION years and these bozos decided, all by themselves, that it was dangerous and they should take it down. Hell, they should stay in jail until another formation is created to replace it.

No one ever said you had to be intelligent to be a boy scout leader ;)

IMHO, the Boy Scouts are a shell of what they used to be and they lack the leadership to completely modernize, while also staying true to their roots.

On a slight tangent, when I clicked on your link I also happened to see a link to another story about a woman receiving backlash over posting a picture of her after having 3 kids. She happens to be in terrific shape and merely posted a picture of her with her 3 kids with the caption "What's your excuse?". The way "Kelly" approached the interview as a whole, not to mention the somewhat ironic nature of her line of questioning and her own personal example of someone who was supposed to be contrary to the picture (herself) just made me laugh. The country keeps getting fatter so we attack people trying to motivate others to get in shape. Which made me wonder where the heck I was. Fox News. All questions answered.

Yeah, I gotta say momma's looking pretty good and I think ther are a lot of catty women out there. Maybe she does exercise morethan most but her message was made clear in that interview. I like how the interviewer was on the defensive at the end of it.

FWIW. my daughter in law would love that momma. She's a compulsive runner and looks pretty durn good, particularly for her age and having three kids. Four if you count my son.

Even better on the idiot BS leader.

It seems that he has been trying to scam an insurance company because he "can't work". But he seemed pretty able-bodied pushing that boulder.

Idiot.

It almost seems like they sort of had good intentions with the whole thing, but they totally went about it the wrong way if they did. When I first saw the video, I would not have mistaken that for good intentions though, because it REALLY seems like vandalism to me. Regardless of intentions, even if they somehow prove that their intentions were in the safety of others, there still needs to be a penalty and MOSTLY for the group leader. The reasoning sounds like covering some butt excuse not safety.

I worked at a shotgun range for sometime back in high school and the worst days to work were when the boyscout troops would come to shoot. It wasn't so much the kids that were the issue, but more the parents and leaders of the kids. A good portion of them think they know what they are doing, and they clearly do not. You can only correct the kids while they are there shooting; but as soon as they leave, the adults are going to take over again and teach incorrect ways. Or worse, they would try to correct me correcting their kid. Always tried to book those days off after I found out what a pain they were. Plus they seemed to never tip...

Not entirely related, but boyscout parents/leaders nonetheless. :)

Well, those two "leaders" are no longer Boy Scout leaders. It seems that once they got wind of this, the Boy Scouts organization wasn't too pleased about their actions. It seems they broke the Boy Scouts version of "The Prime Directive". ...and I'm sure their bragging about it on Youtube didn't help either.

Not sure if he just lost his scoutmaster position only or totally kicked out of it. The latter should be it from that org.

On top of that, he should have to work at the park for a year for free. His job: educating people about the preservation of natural history.

I can only imagine what would be said if the rock had fallen at some point and hurt some kid and they hadn't done anything.

I know, not very realistic, and they should have just let it be and reported it to someone instead of taking action. But, they do say in the video, which does present them as being dumbarses, that they were trying to protect kids from getting hurt. It wasn't something said later, but in the original video.

Still, geniuses at play like that will eventually get what is coming.

With the video: Dave Hall and Glenn Taylor, reported Goblin Valley rock vandals, kicked out of Utah Boy Scouts

Yes, I love that part. Community service from offenders is done all the time. Great idea.
