Hey guys just wanted to ask you experts for some feedback, I'm going to buy a new sub tonight but cannot decide which one.. I can get the svs pb12nsd for 650$$ or the servo 15 for 500$$, what would you go with? What will hit harder for dubstep/trance/house/rap.. thank you!

edit: damnit! realized the servo is a 7 hour drive, not sure ill be making that trip.. other subs that have been offered include: HSU vtf-2 mk2, velodyne dls5000r or mfw 15.. do any of those compare with the pb12nsd?

For your music, you will want big output above 40 Hz or so, so ported isn't necessary, however the drive to get the Paradigm isn't worth it unless you have a lot of freetime and your car gets incredible mileage. The MFW-15 will give you the most output there, but that is a sub with a long history of reliability issues, so I would only buy it if it were very cheap. The PB12 does OK here, but not great. The VTF2 mk2 will not be an overperformer in this respect, the mk3 and mk4 would be much better. The Velodyne might be reasonably good, but its an oldie so don't pay a lot for it. I would go for a new Hsu VTF2 mk4, Outlaw LFM-1 Plus, or Rythmik LV12. Another sub that might be better than those in this regard would be this Dayton kit. It takes a little bit of assembly but should punch pretty good in the frequency range of the music you listen to.

would you say a cerwin vega 18 inch powered sub for 600$ @ 1400 watt peak would be good for the genre i listen too? sub model = cva-118

If it is the newer PB-12 with the Sledge amp, then I'd say it will be a good choice. Even the older one is probably fine for what you listen to. The VTF-2 MkII was a good sub, but you'd have to get it relatively cheap and it won't have as much output as the PB12. The servo15 V1 is an solid sub, but is pretty old at this point and the v2 was a better sub.

The CVA-118 would have monstrous output above 40 Hz. If you like it loud, that is the one to get. It doesn't do deep bass though. The PB12 does deep bass, but its mid and upper bass will be weak in comparison. I wouldn't be surprised if the CW had fully 10X the output of the PB12 above 40 Hz. It's made for a very different application than the SVS sub.
