Uh oh. I might be looking for a new receiver soon. Question.

My trusty Denon 2802 may be on the way out. I noticed a bit of hiss coming from the center channel speaker when I leaned down to change a CD. I never noticed this before.

Aside from being a cheap SOB, it has one nice feature I'll miss: The ability to tweak each channel, including the subwoofer, individually for each source. This comes in handy since my SACD player, being fed through the analog aux in, needs a bit of boost on the subwoofer.

Does ths feature exist on current receivers?

What kind of budget are you thinking if it should come down to it?

Good question. I'm thinkin' around $5- 600 (less if I can pull it off but I ain't holdin' my breath) and already checked A4L.

Since MC analog inputs are a requirement for my SACD player, it's down to Marantz units there. It's ashame that no comparably priced Denon units have them.

The MC inputs are killer for a budget, which you already know. What about an older Marantz like the 6006/6007? You'd probably have to buy used, but you can get the 6006 for less than your budget and the 6007 for a bit more. The only issue is setting the channels per the source. I know with my Onkyo it has an easy on the fly adjustment for channel levels so you don't have to go digging through the menus, but they only include MC inputs on the 30XX, 50XX models which ain't cheap and for whatever reason the 3009's (a year or two old model) are a bit difficult to find. Unless of course you'd like to buy mine :p ;)

Good suggestions, thanks. At A4L I've found SR-5007 and 6006 refurbs have the MC analog inputs I need (and a bunchsa other stuff I could happily live without ) and fall within my price range. I was hoping to get some good news on those on-the-fly adjustments.

Ok, so it took a little searching, but the 6006 has the ability to do a couple different things that may help. First, you can set the overall level, although possibly the tone level, for digital vs analog sources. I know you can adjust the overall level, I'm just not sure about treble/bass setting. That may help. The other thing is that getting to the tone/level controls doesn't seem too bad. Page 75 shows you how and all you do is hit the "AMP" button on the remote and then select "Ch LVL" on the menu that pops up and you're in. Hopefully that's not too intrusive and it's about the same as the Onkyo that I have.

The Onkyo TX-NR708 (and the TX-NR709 has it too too) has the function you're looking for quick screen popup. It has a dedicated button on the remote called Home. It can pop on screen when you have anything connected via HDMI. For watching TV it will pop up the receiver screen and you can change it there too. My sunkin' 707 had it too, but only on the receiver but not on screen.

I forgot to look at the models lower in the lineup from mine. It seems that after the xx09 models they removed the multi-channel inputs. Good catch.
