Anyone know if this is true? It was on another forum I follow.

"The problem with the NHT Superzero is that they don't perform at the recommend THX crossover 80hz settings. You will have to set then at a higher crossover with the sub and this will result in a very localized sub."
Essentially, yes. Above about 120hz it becomes easier to detect where the sound is coming from, so crossing the sub higher means this is more likely.

HT Labs measurements
The SuperZero 2.0’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +3.01/–3.03 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +3.23/–2.60 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 110 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 97 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 6.23 ohms at 230 Hz and a phase angle of –40.53 degrees at 146 Hz.

The Cambridge Audio S30 speakers will go down low

The Pioneer BS22 will also do good in the bass

I owned the SZ for over 10 years and set my XO @ 100Hz. Never once had an issue. Nothing but hearsay. Gotta love the internet. :D

I currently set my XO to 100Hz. No issues here.

Plenty of people set their XO higher than 80Hz, like 100-120Hz. The key is having capable subs. ;)

I planned to use the Superzero's as surrounds pared with a NXG Technology's NX-BAS-500 subwoofer.

Will I have a problem? I have not purchased the Superzero's yet, but it has come down to those or two Definitive Tech Promonitor 800's for my surrounds.

SZ would be great for surrounds.

Just picked up two of them for $60 each. NHT was sold out of the B stock so they are selling E stock. They claim the E stock is brand new in the box and 100% QC inspected. What I was told is that they have switched factories due to quality issues and the E stock are from previous factory, but have been 100% QC inspected and should be in excellent shape. I hope so as they are not returnable.

It was between these at $60 each and the Definitive Tech Promonitor 800's - I hope I don't regret it. I will have to figure out what cross over to set these at as that is all foreign to me.

Here's a pic of the room. Right now I am thinking of moving the TV to the left as much as I can wth the center right in front. The having a bookshelf speaker by the window on the right and the other bookshelf speaker on the left side of the fireplace. Thoughts? Living room.jpg
