UMC200 out of commission

Finally got around to trying the firmware update again because I had some time and new speakers so I needed to recalibrate. So Emotiva said the problem I was having was that a 10' USB cable would not work. OK... Basically different cables, different computers, it would not connect. Got a shorter cable and it connected the first time. I followed the steps to the letter and now the thing will not complete the start up sequence to even start the next 3 required updates. Cannot find anything anywhere, including their forums, about a factory reset on the unit. Looking like I will have to send it back and I am not finding that much to my liking.

Have you unplugged it for a little while? I know we talk about it all of the time, but it's easy to forget to try when you're all aggravated. Who knows if that will work...but you never know.

I would all and go through some trouble shooting steps, unplug it and let it sit a while like adam said is also a good idea... My UMC200 works well but I don't ask much of it, just hooked to an amp, a zone 2 amp, a ps3, cable box and tv, once and a while I hook the hdmi cable to my laptop... I hope you get this figured out. good luck

Turning it off at the power supply is part of the firmware update procedure, so unplugging it won't do anything. That's the point at which it failed - after cycling the power after the first update, it no longer works. Looking at their forum, it looks like the only answer is to send it in for those who have had the same thing happen.

It will depend on what Emotiva has to say tomorrow. And then it is between the 7701 and the older 7005 that is a few hundred less.

That sucks J. Haven't you had problems with that thing since you took it out of the box?

Emotiva's forums posted an alternate upgrade method known as "Doc's" method which most folks have luck with. Probably moot if you already sent it back. My UMC-200 came loaded with the most recent firmware and I've had zero issues.

Hmm, not sure why the forum added a smiley face. I meant doc's method.

Haven't sent it back yet since it happened on Sat., but boxed it up since I had to reroute all video sources direct to the TV and swap out my PM7200 for audio. Will see what they say before trying anything else.

I actually really like this unit and the feature set, but it has had some issues that have held it back. I looked at the Outlaw unit as well, but it lacks some of the features the UMC200 has that I'd like. The 7701 (refurb) also has more than all of the features I'm interested in and would cost less than the XMC-1.

There's also the Denist method. Here are both step-by-step:

<style type="text/css"></style> Doc Method:

1: Boot UMC-200.
2: Plug in USB Cable.
3: Open Loader and load the update file.
4: Leave all four files checked and run.
5: Once the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] file is finished, UMC-200 will reboot itself.
6: Reset defaults.

Denist Method:

1: Power off UMC-200 from the back.
2: Unplug USB cable only from PC.
3: Run EMO program on your PC.
4: Find upgrade file and click reprogram and select all files and hit start.
5: A box saying USB comes up with all kind of glibberists.
6: Power on UMC-200 from the back but leave it on amber.
7: Plug USB cable in the PC and power on UMC-200.
8: USB box disappears and it starts loading on the 4th file. Usually there will be all kind of mismatch OSD warnings. Don't worry, it will completely disappear after all the other files were loaded.
9: Then it loads the rest from the top (1,2,3).
10: Make sure all files indicate success.
11: Power down UMC-200 from the back toggle and unplug the USB cable from the unit.
12: Power up the UMC-200 and don't forget the load defaults instructions at the end.

It seems obvious that the key step of reciting "Klaatu barada nikto" is missing here :D :D :D

LOL. "I said your damn words...more or less..."

Used their method and it fires up now.
Haha, wasn't sure if anyone would catch it.

Good to see that it looks like your in the clear now.
