Looking into mounting plasma. Do's and don'ts, mfg. to avoid....

Hey folks!

We have a baby on the way and want to get the TV out of her reach. i have looked at mono price, but there so cheap it worries me. Are they quality? Or crap. We have a 66 lbs. Plasma and would like a full articulating mount.

What do you use? Who should I avoid?

With a heavy TV I would go with a 'between the studs' mount only. Their double 'studs' mount version is good, but not really spectacular, and frankly ANY full articulating mount is a worry to me as they all have the potential to be pulled upon by someone. A toddler likely will push the weight limits of a full articulating mount significantly.

Chief, IMO, is the gold standard in QUALITY manufacturing. You want secure, crazy solid mounts? Go to them!

I would stick with a dual arm design for higher safety levels.

While Monoprice has this:

which I have used in a teen/adult home is okay... and I would expect this to be better:

But, I would recommend a in-wall unit far more as it has to pull across studs to come down which is phenomenally difficult to do so the weight rating should be far higher.

On the other hand, I would NOT likely use or recommend an articulating mount in a home with a toddler, but would stick with a standard tilting mount.

I use it for my 64" Samsung plasma, and have used it on 70" and 80" LCD flat panels with zero issues or worries at all. Phenomenal for the price! Wide means it can cover 3-stud bays, gives lots of left/right slide capability and has good locking tilt adjustment so the TV doesn't 'slip' forward.

Nothing has really changed. Monoprice still has great value, but special care should be taken with them.

Chief products are still the best in my experience, but, yes, they cost a pretty penny. Typical cost for Chief would be 3 to 6 times as much as what you will see elsewhere, but potentially worth it if the TV is in a life threatening situation.

I have my 54 inch plasma hanging from a monoprice wall mount..Mount was around 30 bucks and is working just fine. The quality is great for the price.

Remove any bouncing or throw-able objects from the room! I've had to give the lecture or throw my kids out of the room on more than one occasion when an object would bounce off the TV. They seemed to get it better when I explained the TV cost more than 200 Barbies.
