Quick question for any Oppo 83SE or 95 owners.

How is the fan noise on those units? How close do you have to be to hear it? Is is worse playing certain types of discs (BD) than others (CD)?

One of the items that I like on the new 105 is the lack of a fan completely. I'm just curious how much of an issue that is on the older models.

I'm not sure the fan on my 83SE has ever come on :) Seriously, if you didn't know it had one, you would never know that it did. When the PS3 warms up, I can hear it from my listening position during quiet periods for sure.

Yeah, I had an original model Xbox 360 (of course it RRoD on me). But when that thing spun up, it was like a freaking jet in the living room. That is only a slight exaggeration! It was louder than my tower PC

I have zero fan issues with my 95.
I have the 95 and the 105. The fan noise on the 95 well it's there. I really don't think its due to the fan but the area sourrounding the fan that magnifies the sound almost like a resonating chamber inside the OPPO housing. Regarding any other issues, NONE at all.

I have a Slim PS3 in the main system so it is quieter than the older version, and I can still hear it.

The 95 is much quieter than the one in the PS3 but I could still hear it from where I sit (12 ft). Obviously not audible when I am listening to music or watching a movie. The 105 is silent, well, no fan either.
