Pioneer VSX 522 K No Audio for SAT/CBL

I have been using this receiver for about 9 months and all worked well. A few evenings ago, I muted the sound for a commercial and the sound is now permanently muted. (Did the advertiser do that?)

All other audio works fine, tuner, CD, DVD, and the sound from my cable box plays fine through an input other than SAT/CBL.

Is this the mute gremilin or what should I do? I'm thinking warranty repair, here.

Welcome to the forum!

The advertiser didn't permanently mute your input. :) This is what I got from your post, so let me know if this is wrong: You have your cable box audio routed through your VSX-522, you pressed the mute button and sound was muted, but you pressed the mute button again and the sound was still muted - but only on that input. All other inputs on the VSX-522 produce sound, and the cable box still produces sound if you plug it into a different input. Correct?

Here's my guess - somehow the signal selection (Analog, Digital, or HDMI) got toggled incorrectly on that input. Check out page 20 of the Pioneer owners manual for details. Connect your cable box back up the SAT/CBL input (I'm guessing that you're using HDMI), choose the SAT/CBL input, and then look at the front panel on the receiver to check what the signal input is set as (the icons are under where the volume is shown). It should show "HDMI" (and not be blinking) if you are using an HDMI input. You can press the "SIGNAL SEL" button on the remote to toggle through the choices. You want it to match whatever method of connection you used.

Ah-Ha! Signal Select did it. Thank you so much. Saved an embarrassing trip to the shop.

So, it was not the advertiser after all . . .

Excellent - I'm glad that it worked!

So, it was not the advertiser after all . . .
That would be a nifty trick if they could do that. "Mute ME, will you? Well, I'll teach you..." :D

Well, Adam beat me to the punch here.

Yup, the old signal select by mistake trick. It took me quite a while to figure it out on my Pio elite the first time I did this too. Be aware that it may be possible to select the wrong signal with video too. In that case you may get audio but just a black screen. It can be frustrating until you figure out what is going on.
