2.5 way speakers that are not towers or centers

What are the forum's thoughts on 2.5 way bookshelf/monitor speakers? For those who have a larger room and but who can't make towers work, is there much of an advantage over standard bookshelf designs? Or, would it be better not to worry about the number of midwoofers, and focus on highly capable "standard" bookshelves? The ones that immediately come to mind after having spent some time here are the Ascend CMT340 and the SalkSurround II. Any other good contenders?

There's nothing magic about a 2.5 way design that can't also be accomplished by other good designs with two mid woofers.

As you're learning with crossovers in general, there are designs and there are details. And the devil is in the details ;).

I believe the thread-starter isn't really clear on what a 2.5 way is. S/He seems to be confusing them with MTMs in general.

Put it this way: a good speaker is a good speaker. Doesn't matter how many "ways" it is crossed over. So the goal should be to find a good sounding speaker that fits your budget more than the details of how that speaker arrived at that point.
