If you want to stick with the known quantity kind of gear you could spend around 2K on a Denon AVR-4311 or X4000 plus a Emotiva XPA-3 or an Outlaw amp for a little more. Spend the remaining 7.5 to 8K on speakers and subs. Or you could save the 0.7 to 1.5K for a 2 or 3 channel if you are willing to give the 4311 a chance to see if it can handle the speakers all by itself. If it can, then you are better off spending the extra money to get a better sub, or two subs.

It always the guys with tonnes of dough who squeeze nickels out of their butt :p
You calling me a tightwad? :D

Opps, there's another nickel. :D

I am actually doing everyone a favor by buying all these expensive gears and then telling everyone that it really ain't all that. ;)

Just wait for the Denon X4000 to sell for about $600 new a year later. Keep the speaker size small, channel levels above + 0.0, get some subs, set your XO to 80Hz, and you really don't need any amps either. Save some bucks. Enjoy, my friends. :D

The Audio Engineering Society standard is half-space. If a speaker company does not specify anechoic, I would just assume they are using half-space.
