Hello everyone! I am an excited noob audiophile who recently got my first post-grad job and is ready to start putting together a solid system! For now, I would like to gear my system toward music as I listen to music much more than I watch movies. So for now, I do not care about the TV. Given that I want to spend $2500-3000 on the entire system (again, without TV), do you guys have any recommendations on how I should portion budget or where to start research? I listen to almost every type of music but my main interests are metal and EDM. I also love holding parties so I would like something with a little umph.

If you like having umph, you're probably going to want to look for a 2.1 system [stereo + subwoofer]. The best way to start would be to go and listen to speakers, as many speakers as you can. You may not find any you like, you may like many out of your budget, but it will give other people a little more information about what you like so that we can better suggest a direction for you to take.

Due to their excellent dual 8" woofers and broad frequency response dip in the upper mids, the SVS Ultra Towers seem like something you would like. Toss in this apparently well-build receiver:
SR-8100 7.1 Channel Receiver
which is on clearance with a 5-year warranty, and you should be pretty satisfied :)
