Hey Guys,
Found this method for checking for correct sub polarity, having a hard time understanding #2. Forgive my ignorance.

1. Reverse the polarity of the left speaker by swapping it's leads.
2. Start playing your pink noise source into the left speaker and sub. You will want to disconnect all other speakers temporarily for this test.
3. With the SPL meter fixed at your LP (and having set it to SLOW speed and C-weighting), note the SPL meter when the phase is 0
4. Start changing the phase and note the SPL readings.
5Pick the phase angle that gave the minimum SPL reading.
6. Reverse the speaker leads to their normal positions and reconnect the rest of the speaker system.

* Since the needle on the SPL meter usually bounces around a bit while measuring bass frequencies, it's often easier to find the minimum SPL using this method instead of trying to find the max SPL.

OK guys, I pretty much understand all this except #2, it says to play the pink noise source (I assume the tone is generated from the AVR) into the left speaker and sub, this is where I'm confused. How do you play the pink noise signal simultaneously through left speaker and sub at the same time, what am I missing?
Like I said earlier, forgive my ignorance. Thanks guys for the time, I look forward to a simple solution to this query.
Cheers, Jeff

It would probably be easiest to use a computer to generate the pink noise, or download a file and play it back in some manner.

Why do you feel you need to do this? Are you not getting the punch you want?

No just feeling crazy, I saw that post and thought I would give it a shot. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the post and it's not suggesting a signal to both left speaker and sub at the same time but individually, that makes no sense, I'll just leave well enough alone. Thanks

Discs

Come to think of it I think I have a couple of test CDs with pink noise on them, Stereophile Test CD, Bass Mekanic and Chesky Ultimate and Disney WOW, there should be some pink noise there.

Pink noise will be played on both simultaneously just like any other sound.. Pink noise should provide noise from DC up though the highest frequency of the media you're using [or at least from 10 hz up]. Crossover will take care of getting everything where it needs to be.

Grad, could you elaborate on that a little for this water logged brain of mine, how will the pink noise play simultaneously on both just like any any sound if I use the AVR's test tone generator, unless you mean after I download a pink noise source or use the CD that I have with the pink noise on them, correct, no?
Thanks, Jeff

I mean if you're playing it from some other source.
